as promised, wish bone tacked in...getting an idea how im going to do my bag brackets. Need to cut down the tube still. Should sit a little higher than wishbone...maybe 1/2'' clearance. A single beer was involved
Side note, wouldnt a 3 link setup with bushings at all ends kinda kill any articulation on the rear axle? I know your not building a rock crawler but seems like it might eat bushing rather fast that way
Killing "articulation" would be ideal. This truck is built to go up, and down. No side to side, no body roll. The most I want the axle to "articulate" is less than a 1/4''. On a side note, this truck may go trailer queen status. Decided to get my cruising fix by buying a caprice body dropped on 20/22 to get me bye until this is done. More time, more money= more details.
You should gusset the bag plate from the tube outward. Towards the end of the bag plate cause the bag filling up could bend tht bracket even if its 1/4"
Planned on a gusset. Not really finished in the back, still meed forward bridge support, shock mounts and some kind of awkward fuel cell. Caprice has the small 4.3 V8. Yeah, 4.3 V8 does exist, was a caprice thing.
Ok, i come from off road racing so the whole learning curve from 30" of travel to street use is something im still trying to comprehend, the fab work looks top notch im currently turning a trailer queen into a daily for my dads friend..... wish the people before me had done as good a job as you are doing, keep up the good work, im looking forward to seeing it completed!
Yeah, whole nother world. My buddy just sold his long travel sandrail. That thing was insane! Had a crotch rocket motor and handled jumps so smooth it blew my mind!
well, reallity has kicked in. 2 kids + wife back to work= no effing time! Think I need to let this project go. Makes more sence to finish my caprice and build something else in a few years. $2500 obo for everything, except motor, I just sold it. Still needs front bagged, I have bags, brackets, and spindles Needs crossmembers and body mounts. 4-20''x9'' ASA rims, have two brand new 225/30/20 tires, need two more. Was going to put 245/30/20 on rear Truck, frame, bags, 20s....buy it up.
Dang I was looking forward to seeing it complete. I'd put a pin in it, come back in a month or so and see where you stand then.
lol nah, she just got a promotion....and it helps her keep her sanity. Who knows, I found a running 4runner with a bad body. Might do a motor swap, drive it and just keep the frame hidden in the back of the garage for awhile.
