Hello all. This is a little story of my 2wd 93 extra cab v6 auto. I bought it from a customer as a total loss. Needed a new radiator support, hood, passenger side fender, door, and some work on the rear quarter panel. Cute right? Threw on the tower and started having fun. Since it was just gonna be my work horse and parts hauler, I just mickey moused it and spliced half of the support everything lines up perfectly though. Got all the panels on and painted her. I've had her for about 2 years now, still running like a champ with the exception of a power steering leak, and light valve tick at 478k miles. I have a few small plans I would like to accomplish on this in the near future (2" drop, wheels, different seats) but my main project comes first. Any tips on reducing wheel hop in the rear and how to improve handling? If you're interested in seeing more of my work, you can look here CHRONiC RHYTHM: A 240 Story
First would be to get it lower, then upgrade the shocks maybe get air-adjustable ones, lots of people here run 69 camaro shocks for the front (need little modifications though). Anti-sway bars if you don't already have, and if yuu do then see if you could get thicker ones. Also lower profile tires help overall handling too. Edit1:also seen someone with coilovers in place of the shocks in the rear Edit2: dont know how to reduce wheel hop, never had any in my truck.
A little update My 93 got a bhg, so I'll be selling her. On a lighter note, I recently picked up an '82 2wd! Makes a lot more noise than I'm used to as it's the oldest vehicle I've ever owned lol.
Could always toss that v6 and either go with a 22re or go no Ecu or engne wires and drop a 22r in there i but dunno about Cali's strict emissions over there
I require pictures, please. The 82's are tough little things. But yeah, many more noises. And much, much less sound damping. Fix the noises that can be fixed, then sound deaden. Not that you asked, but a off-the-cuff order of taking care of things both noisy and important would be: All obvious, major mechanical stuff (anything leaky, then transmission & rebuild if necessary). Tune up, flush and general refreshment after major mechanicals. Fresh hoses, chain & belts if possible. Electrical if not already necessary (mostly clean-up, remove previous owners' BS wiring for aftermarket stereos, etc). Bushings. Bushings everywhere. Rattles that don't come with bushings (tighten screws n bolts inside & out) Gut interior, sound deaden with layers of dissimilar material, make interior nice again. POWER! Dress-up time.
Sorry I havent logged in here in awhile lol. I actually ended rebuilding the head and replacing the head gasket. The 82 is now buzzed down and windows have been removed. Gonna take care of the rust and then respray the exterior and jambs. Then I'll be blasting the bed with some spray on liner.
