I picked up this 84 extended cab from my buddy who started a shop and didn't have time to finish the project. It has a firewall back frame and lays on 19s. Still has ac and heat. He will be finishing the truck out for me at his new shop, building the back wall, tranny tunnel and tubing it right after Scraping the coast. Going to pull the motor out and get it rebuilt, get all the drive train and wiring buttoned up and get the fuel cell built in the meantime. I cant decide which bed to use he has the European and the Japanese version, but it will be all open and you'll be able to see up to the carrier bearing because the back wall of the cab will wrap around it. paint will be Lexus IS-F obsidian grey and the interior will be red to match the frame and red leather.
thanks man, yea i had thought about changing the wheels but you never see those anymore so i think i will keep them instead of being mainstream
I think bed choice would be dictated by what fenders you run. Since you like your wheels and seem to tuck in 2wd fenders, I would say run the jap bed with the rail and hooks. More old school looking, and not as many guys seem to keep that look anymore. I have that setup on my 78, and to dress it up I am going to put 1"x1"ish aluminum angle iron on the bed rails and tail gate top, then polish it all up. Was thinking about cutting some 1/2" aluminum plate into some hooks and bolting them to the rail. Keep the utility but look a little flashy. And do you have anymore pics of your avatar truck? Looks like IS300 headlights, 4runner bumper and is that an 05 camry grille bar?
It started out as a 96, and has IS300 headlights, the 4Runner bumper, and the rest was custom made with rod and sheetmetal, the hood is extended and all molded around. The rear of the truck was shortened a foot, and has a supra independent rear suspension in it. its on 19x9 and 10 inch wheels. Its been featured in minitruckin in 2009 and truck trends in japan. my buddy garrett built it.
I love that thing. Looks great. Combo of parts really works well. Nice touch with cutting up a stock steering wheel too.
thanks man it was a really well put together idea. that steering wheel always trips people out nobody ever knows what its from, lol. and the back is the actual 4 runner rear bumper. its awesome because makes the whole truck lay, but it catches on EVERYTHING if you forget the rear isn't lifted enough.
I caught the steering wheel because of a Mazda years ago I fell in love with. Plane Jane. In one of low lifes dvds is feature and he was like "steering wheel is stock, threw it in the fire, cut it up" and that always stuck with me haha. And I want a 4runner rear for the same reason on the old trucks. Bring the back edge down. I'm not bagged, but still real low. Not sure if it would catch, hadn't thought of that. Was going to reinforce the bottom edge with tubing in case it smacks the pavement though.
Whats the black bubble? Magic 8 ball? Motorcycle helmet? Fuel filler access? Lol nice job with the roofbed
yea plane jane was sick! it just showed up on a show flier so im hoping they bring it back out i havent seen it in a long time. yea make sure to weld some support if you do it, mine has it and it still caught the corners where the bumper was welded to the side pieces and eventually cracked the paint. yea thats a motorcycle helmet cut up and the fuel filler is behind it, a magnet holds it shut. its got a harley davidson gas tank for the center console with the air gauge and two switches in it
I was looking for parts to rebuild my motor last night and started talking to Andy from All day fab in Arizona about some parts from his Toyota the Toy Rover and I think I am just going to purchase the complete engine from him. Completely rebuilt, It only has about 200 miles on it. It has a brand new toyota crank in it and all the bearing and seals. New oil pump, water pump, timing cover, everything is new. Starter is new, alternator is new, the timing cover is polished, the cylinder head is ported and polished and the outside of it is polished also. It has Dual weber side draft 45 mm carbs. They are polished and the manifold is polished also. all of the pulleys are chromed and the block is painted black. It's pretty badass
