I just picked up a super clean '80 2wd w/5spd trans. I have read some of the posts and it seems that upgrading the intake/exhaust are the best way to increase mpg. I don't have a lot of experience working on cars or trucks so what is the best way for me to increase my mpg without breaking the bank? Also, is it wise to remove the smog components (cat/smog pump etc.) to allow it to breath better? Thanks.

Also...what is the best resource for finding small parts like running lights, interior small parts and the like? Thanks.

There's a good group here. I'm sure whatever small parts you need somebody has. I might have stuff. What do you need? And for exhaust, I suggest a header an 2.25 or 2.5" pipes. I like porting my intake manifolds when I swap to a weber carb. Just take the casting flash down and make the transitions smoother.

Welcome! Regarding parts, I can be a good resource. Make a list of parts and inbox me.

Thanks guys! Rick I will get a parts list together and send it to you. Another question....the odometer on my truck does not have the extra digit to show the 100,000 mark. Is it possible to figure out just how many miles are on the truck? Right now it reads 87,000ish. Thanks...Geoff.

    Geoff,
For the 1982 model, Toyota added the extra digit. My truck is currently at 276,000 miles. It's kind of difficult to determine if your truck has 87K or it has rolled over since it is a 1980 model. I suggest you do a CarFax report. There will be documentation of the mileage there.

I'll keep an eye out for your parts list.

    Rick
