can you run straight-pipe on a 1995.5-2004 Toyota Tacoma with a 2rz??? or do you have to run a high-flow cat because of the 02 sensor in the cat???
Company called URD makes a 02 sensor simulator for this very application. Had one on my lifted 96 with a 3RZ
You can do anything you want What matters is if it's legal where you are....well it's illegal on-road everywhere in most countries to remove it but you can get away with it if you don't have inspections. If you have inspections or tests obviously you'll have some trouble even more so with a simulator.
I 'm considering buying a 1998-2004 Toyota Tacoma 2wd sr-5 pickup eventually. but I want to build it to auto-cross and to do some back road driving. where I live there is a lot of curves too. but I don't want to attract the cops too. I plan I running a k@n air-intake also a l.c. engineering header and a flowmaster 40 series exhaust with a 2 1/4 pipe with a turndown before the rear axle. I just don't want to attract the police too!!!
have you considered a bypass valve? they make electric ones that can be opened and shut remotely, so you can have open exhaust for autocross, and shut it for road driving. The cops also can't tell you've gone catless unless they look underneath the vehicle. Don't be a jackass while driving and they won't have a reason to. O2 sensors can be relocated in some (most) cases, though like mentioned before it does come down to whatever the law stipulates.
Running rear o2 sims on my camaro no check engine lights . So they work well on most applications just stay away from eBay ones or dirt cheap ones there are also do it yourself sims using resistors but in my opinion just buy one save yourself the hassle . And high flow cats are a good alternative
Just keep the stock cat, you should be fine. Run a magnaflow to improve the exhaust flow and still enjoy a nice sound that's not going to make you drill a bit into your head lol. I'm running catless, basically. It's not the greatest
Gotta agree with cinnamon there is very little dyno proof that gutting a cat or adding high flow cats adds hp .. Maybe 1 to 3 hp on a street car . no cams no head work proably wont feel it and if you do it .. will be a butt dyno ego feel .....when I did mine right of the bat I noticed a a low end torque loss to be expected and no difference at full throttle except for the noise my 1/4 mile times also did not change 13.1 at 107mph 3 inch y pipe ...3 inch exhaust< factory size and long tube headers . ... My Toyota is also catless and it was not noticeable .... In short a well flowing exhaust like mentioned above will do you good the cat if flowing well will do u better keeping it on a daily truck
