Common Toyota swap is to switch to a gm alternator most of them produce high amps at idle and bracket swaps are available and or I believe a later style 22r alt bracket will work there's some info on the web about this gm alts are everywhere and considerably cheap. And truck action beat me to it ^^^

Look up tenney alternators if you want something bigger than the gm 3 wire.

i'm going to be running around 3000w with just the subs when im done, as well as a fold-down screen and a second battery. will the GM 3wire be able to handle that?

I would run. 2 batteries group 31s. And you could always get a higher amperage 3wire alt also. My stock alt has the big three and 1 group 31. Im only running total 1000atts with my highs amp and sub amp (smaller system.) My voltage drop isnt too bad. Keep the revs up and your good.

Good info ^^ had no idea jag alts would fit ....if your into high watt sound systems . Might consider a gm powerbastards.com 220amp alt and the above mentioned battery's and upgraded cables or get crazy and run two alts like the pro sound guys
