loses major power going up slight inclines in 4th or 5th

    so this started happening recently. Im on the highway (has a section with slight but quite long uphill) and everyones doing about 60mph and usually I can keep up but a couple days ago I was in 5th and my truck just starts losing all power if I accelerate and my shifter is shaking like a motherfkr! like its in the wrong gear so i shift it to 4th and its the same. It does this on slight inclines now. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP? I have no idea and i would love to get a direction where to start. thank you in advance guys !

    you gotta give more details like efi or carb.Do you get a burn smell.could be burning up your clutch.Any sound changes or anything else out of the ordinary?let us know

    its efi 22re. i get a slight burning smell. could be clutch. also like a choppy airy sound from my exhaust. maybe a leak too not that i think about it. thanks malessohomegrown. i know there could be a bit of reasons why this is but did this ever happened to anyone else?

    The burn smell could be the clutch but the choppy air sound sounds like an exhaust leak and could be exhaust fumes. Get under there and check out the exhaust. It would have to be pretty bad to slow to you down that much. Most likely right at the manifold.Burning clutch has a very distinctive smell just like burning break pads. Asbestos smell.lmk

    Might be your clutch normally your clutch would slip at low gears and heavy on the gas .milage on motor and clutch original or aftermarket ?

    clutch will slip ALOT more in higher gears than in low gears like 1st or 2nd.

    Clutches slip in low gears do to the high ratio of 1st and 2nd gear were optimal force is applied for moving the vehicle from a stop . worn clutch disk pulling against a 2500 pound vehicle will slip at low speeds and stop and go driving far sooner than high speeds and cruising .......higher gears were the truck is moving and the gear ratio is a lot lower equals less strain applied to the disk . < a already moving vehicle

    Pressure plates the actual part that applies force to the disk .does not change in any gear it has the same pressure 1st to 5th the slipping comes from worn disk moving heavy weight from a stop extremely worn disk can slip in any gear tho

    check your u-Joints when they go bad everything starts shaking....Bad.....

    You have that backwards. Don't worry, you aren't the first. Half the people in my transmissions class couldn't grasp the concept and one guy still argued we were all on drugs by the end of the semester. I know from experience in several cars that it slips in all gears because the engine puts out the same torque in all gears. It's just more noticeable in high gears because in low gears you have less resistance (more torque at the wheels) because of the gear ratios so you don't push the gas as hard. It slips more noticeably in high gears because there's much more resistance (Coefficient of drag x speed) and less torque at the wheel (less gear reduction). If it slipped at low speed/low gears then eventually you'd get to the point where you could still go as fast as you wanted but never be able to start moving.

    The only reason it wouldn't slip in high gear would be that you don't have the engine up in the powerband enough to make enough torque to slip it.

    ANYWAY that won't make the engine shake and buck. slipping clutch just lets the engine rev up without accelerating the vehicle. smoothly. We're looking at a high load misfire... Check your ignition advance, especially if you have a non-knock sensor 22re (I think only 4x4 had them?). could also be bad ignition parts or fuel system unable to match the load. The trick is finding out what without throwing a lot of parts at it.

    -When was the last time you did a tune up? cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter?
    -CEL on? Have you pulled codes?
    -can you get the same effect with a high load in lower gears at the same or higher RPM?
    -any mods?

    I'm with this guy^^^^^ seen it many times in my own cars and trucks!!! Your clutch had to be real bad or your trying to burn tires to notice it slipping in 1st gear but you got a little load or weight behind your truck and that puppy will slip it 4th or 5th in a heartbeat!! To op I would check fuel filter first and do a tune up new plugs wires that kinda thing... Start with the cheap easy stuff

    Does Sound like a Plug wire breaking down, especially in Damp/wet weather.
