Probably the shifter bushing is worn. It's the little cap bushing that goes on the ball end at the bottom of your shifter.Like $7 but gotta get them at the dealer.2 bushings i believe.

I got my white bushing from marlin crawler. It's solid and won't wear like the OEM ones. When I got my W58, the bushing was pretty much non-existant.

Nope. Trans synchronizers are worn. I had a '82 that did same thing except it was 5th gear only. I cool hold it in there, but as soon as I let it go and gave it some gas...popped right out. Need a new trans. Or yours rebuilt.

more power into trans from fresh clutch puts more load on it did your grind any gears with the worn clutch?
syncs. could be bad but being 1st + 3rd bushings the likely culprit

you took the shifter out to change the clutch you could have lost the bushing

i have a homemade one make it out of a piece of motorcycle handle bar about 1/2 in long with a couple of plastic sleeves [made from the little red plugs you get on a salvage motor]on the inside and outside of the tubing works well, its cheap[free], and can be replaced in no time if my redneck repair fails

naw, i ain't remove the shifter from the trans. actually i couldn't get it off! i know the bushing is still on the shifter handle i think it's just wadded up in one of the other rubber boots off the shifter. i'ma try that when i get outta class today and see if it helps. hopefully it does. THANKS!!

i got that part of it fixed, i just didn't have the rubber boots that go around the shifter back in place right and it just had enough pressure pushing on it to pop the trans outta gear. perfect now though
