Hey so Im rebuilding my 93 2wd toyota pick up i got for 400 bucks. I sold my last 93 and missed it alot. so i started looking for another one. thought i found a good deal ran ok but couldnt pass smog turned out the rings were bad. so i pulled my motor. first rebuild in process. just sent the block to the shop. I was thinking of just going with the master rebuild kit from lce engineering. I believe i was looking at the economical rebuild kit for 300 bucks. but i thought i would ask everyone here while i have everything apart if there are any good mods i can do while keeping it on somewhat budget. so far all im doing is getting my block bored .20 because the number 2 cylinder had some scoring on the cylinder wall. so what should i do. what do you guys think of gapless piston rings? do they do anything? can i do anything to my stock crankshaft for reasonable price ? the pistons im getting are hypertec street pistions from lce they come with the kit.. any advice would be great i figured while its out spend the extra money i dont want to now then change my mind and wish i did it later.

I questioned the economy kit so I bought the street performance kit 40 overbore and let the machine shop assemble the short block just in case there is an assembly problem. I went 30 on the mains and 30 on the rods and LCE sent me the wrong bearings even after speaking on the phone with them thankfully the machine shop had what I needed in stock cause that's what they do for a living

I radically build and supercharged a 22RE by hand that was used in a drift truck. My most inportant piece of advice on the engine is to use only CLEVITE bearings.

And for $400, you can get nearly everything you need for a rebuild from engnbldr.com

    They are great.

Totally agree on the Clevite77's.Don't touch the crank. No need. As for small upgrades there are many options.Probably cheapest and smallest upgrade for a 22re is cold air intake.Second I would say small cam maybe 280 or so just make sure it is good with the computer box and doesn't throw it off.Other options range in price but gearing, flywheel, clutch, headers and so on will make a difference in your performance.Go to LCE and check out all the options.
