I have been eyeing the Weber 32/36 kit for my 89 p/u. Its a Weber so its quality stuff but I have heard rumors of something I can do to my stock carb to get better numbers. Anybody know anything about this or know how to do it?

If your talkin bout modifying the secondary's to stay open on a stock carb then yea its a mod but not worth it.a lot of people think the 32/36 is bigger not by much than the factory carb in reality there very similar primarys from each other. the 32/36 just has a smooth unrestricted primary and the secondary is quicker it does ad a few hp from its simple design and gas mileage when tuned right . In short the stock carb is not fun when they get old not worth trying to trick it out

Would the Weber 38 be a better choice?

That's a large carb mainly for built motors or high elevation motors a 32/36 is a excellent replacement for the stock carb

I've been emailing back and forth with Redline for the last week trying to make up my mind between the 32/36 or the 38. They stated that the 38 will NOT be over carburation for a stock 22R. The 32/36 is your best choice if all you're after is a replacement carb for the stocker, you will get moderate gains in performance and fuel economy. The 38 will work just fine for a stock motor and you will see a 30% improvement in performance gains over those seen with the 32/36. The 38 really shines when paired with other upgrades such as exhaust, headers, cam, etc. but are not necessary for its use. Fuel economy gains are not as high as with the 32/36 but will not be worse then the factory.

Make sure you have a fuel pressure regulator that lets you dial down to 2.5-3 pounds of fuel pressure if you go with either weber.

Yea the 38 isnt to big u can run holley 500cfm carbs on 22rs I've had many weber carbs on my built motor currently using the 34/34 synchronized had the 38 synchronized its decent but buy no means a gas saver or sipper had the the 32/36 it was the best always stayed we're I set it tuned and forget it carb for the 22r with minor bolt-ons or stock street trucks like progressive carbs easy stop and go driving no loading up the ones that I have owned without a doubt that are temper mental are the 34@38

And yes I'd use a low pressure fuel regulater to slow the fuel flow down webs have sensitive floats and hate pressure

I don't get very good gas mileage with my 34/34 motor partial to blame I'm not sure they even make them anymore I no its hard finding certain jets for them most webers get good gas mileage mostly do to webers unique 80% percent drive circuit

I'm getting the upgraded head and cam kit from engnbldr along with full exhaust. So I'm assuming the Weber 38 and a lpr for the fuel pump are my best bet

I'm running his rv head ported and polished and a crower cam st2 cam for my top end if your going for hp skip the engnbldr cam the head really responds from more desirable hp cams such as LC engineering or crower or Doa cams if you can deal with the lumpy idle and a little more tuning the 38 web will go well with these larger cams and a well built header really wakes the 22r up

    I'm running a 500cfm Holley 2 barrel.

Great carb. And defiantly not to much. Those 32-36 and 38s are small!
