It took awhile but I finally found my 1st Toyota.....and exactly the year/model I was looking for.....its a 1 owner 1981 4wd DLX longbed with factory optional 5 spd (its not a SR5)..moon roof...factory AM/FM stereo that works!..has 60k original miles, original paint, interior near mint, with one small dash crack over speaker....I like totally stock vehicles so no plans on upgrades for this one....just a new set of more aggressive tires like BFG Mud TA's..... These trucks in this condition are non existent here in the northeast, all have rusted away years ago....so I lucked out finding this one in the dry desert southwest of CA......
Thanks....It really doesn't need restoration as its in very good shape....will just do some regular maintance, new tires etc.....will probably take it around to Shows this summer as you just don't see nice stock examples of them around here anymore...
Congratulations and GREAT find!!! The factory moon roof was not only an SR5 option, so I'm glad this DLX got one. The engine compartment looks good too. BFG Mud T/A's will indeed make your truck look more aggressive. Holler out if you need any help or questions answered! Rick
Thanks Rick......the build date on this one is late Aug of 81 so it must have been one of the last produced with the round head lights...I imagine production of the 82's (square headlights) started in Sept?....
Here's a interior shot....super clean....the PO is 75 yrs old and he bought it new 32 yrs ago , basiclly just kept it in his garage most of the time...have all original paperwork including original dealer invoice...About the only thing I may change is if I could ever find some blue bucket seats from that time......
Hey Kevin, Usually, the month of Aug is the switch to the next production year and in this case it is not. My '82 SR5 was built in Oct, 1981 and I bought it on Nov 17, 1981. My HS girlfriend had a Copper Brown Metallic SR5 that was parked on the Showroom Floor. I actually had my eye on this truck before school started. Take a look at some of my photos of my truck in the gallery! Rick
