Ok for all you bagged guys, or really low static drop guys, or just modders/fabricators... I found a VERY interesting and useful read on retrofitting rack and pinion into cars...It answered all my geometry/mounting questions and I will be starting this project within a couple days (as soon as I can take some measurements, go to the yard and get a rack).

Rodding Roundtable :: View topic - Steering geometry, installing Rack and Pinion

I have a 67 stout that is static dropped really low, and have almost completely inverted my stock steering angles, creating some of the most horrific bump steer I have ever experienced. With the 20r swap (front sump pan) and the way the stout frame is, there is more than ample room to get a rack mounted in the correct location, out of the way of everything and tucked tighter so the frame can sit on the ground in a bagged situation.

I had a bunch of questions on setting it up with the angles correct (or atleast damn close) to help reduce/eliminate the bumpsteer my truck has, and add a nice, simple power steering to it.

I will be documenting my project and letting you all know how it goes/how it turns out and drives when Im done.

rack is mounted in the car. Steering column almost done.
Still need to notch the front frame for the tie rods cause with the front at full drop they bump into the frame.

This is a driveway project so It got put on hold during spokane's winter. Should be back at it shortly...but all this work may be for nothing...as I have found a donor for a much better/lighter/ perfect geometry option...No clues yet..but just this picture..it is a factory unit out of a car..but wont say which until I get closer to knowing if it will go in.

Full self contained front suspension with rack and pinion, big vented front discs...and stays 5x4.5.

Yup, last gen (mid 2000s and up) crown vic/grand marquis/town car. Just gotta attach it somehow and figure out springs...it's meant for an extra thousand lbs even if it was riding cushy.

those are nice self contained setups but there are far better options for our trucks

may cost a touch bit of cash but Eibach can custom make springs for you.
