So here it is ladies and gents, my new Hilux project. 1978 Custom Cab Dually... sort of... Dually axle and wheels are bent and broken but I have an axle from an 86 SRW 1-ton that I can swap in with some 15x10's maybe. This truck is going to be my new daily driver, so for now don't expect fast or drastic progress. But I will be posting pictures and notes as often as I can to keep this build thread alive until I can totally tear it apart and maybe bag it. Stay tuned.
Sorry as an australian so many things in the US just do not make any sense. been pondering these hilux duelly and not knowing how to comment, curretly sitting on the couch and rat bastards is on tv and low and behold a machine gun and in some way only logical in the US ends up being the best way to kill these rats. Some people think it is cool to own a didgeridoo, I find it sad how many trees get cut down in the hope of finding just one that is hollow. Edit I have owned a early toyota dyna with duel rear wheels and have used it to go cut didges as an offsider, yep I play a piece of PVC pipe and now own stout as both do the same job
Agent Orange.Wow that's quiet a truck you have there.Looks like a lot of work.Whysmee you lost me about two miles back partner. Can we get a translation on that.
Whysmee... What the hell are you talkin about bro? I didn't buy this truck to haul logs or romp around in the outback... I bought this truck because its super rare here in the states, I can put my kids in the back and I can haul car parts around. The fact that's its a dually is just a bonus because it looks cool, and who doesn't love a dually mini truck? Anyway, one day you will see this truck on the cover of Mini Truckin, it's gonna take a lot of time, blood, sweat and beers... And I'm stoked about that.
Oh and the truck cost me $300 plus a $30 dollar starter, and two hours worth of pressure washing, vacuuming and window cleaning to get a 536k mile daily driver that gets a little over 20 miles to the gallon... Can't beat that with a didgeridoo...
in australia we had something that got called the holden one tonner, when the original ute were new they had a full body and many cut the back off and put flat trays on and some went the extra step and put the lazy axle in as well, near all had a V8 253ci, 308ci or 350 chev put in them after the lazy axle were fitted as the original 202ci straight six struggled when they were empty to do 60mph. File:Holden Ute.jpg - Wikimedia Commons when this modification was common practice a friend of my father had a news paper run between mildura victoria australia to broken hill new south wales and back each day and still dose it, apart from the looks cool factor they are a nightmare, they do not fit in standard car parks, if for some reason like a flat tire they could not go off the road with out getting stuck and the cost in fuel made them not viable eventually. they were replaced by four cylinder diesel duel wheel trucks that were slow and rough, now he has Mercedes benz sprinters such as the american pickers and i will leave that there. my toyota dyna truck was originally a mail delivery truck 1970 of the Nullarbor Plain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , due to the vast distance and lack of fuel the little 5R 1994cc dyna was used to prove a point, the downfall of the dyna was the duel rear wheels as in sand and in gravel they get stuck when single wheels do not. my dyna was awesome and i wish i still had it as a rare part of toyota and australian history, although i parted with it because it was so rough and expensive on fuel compared to the same engine and transmission in the stout and it was because off the duel rear wheel dyna i have a stout and it is far nicer ride wise and uses far less fuel. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/of...y-where-they-built-203/index6.html#post168771

Holy sh!t bro. What kind of weed you guys smokin over there?Wow.Mean while back on earth.I really want to see how this truck turns out. What motor came in those.Seem like it could need a bit more power.
When I bought the truck I didn't get the dually wheels, they were bent by the previous owner and he swapped in a srw axle... And as for the engine question, it has the standard 20R, it's no race truck but it's a good mpg dd. After I bag the truck I will be shoehorning in a late production F and a half that I'm starting to rebuild. That should give me plenty of towing and hauling power... Plus the bags, disc brakes and big ass wheels and tires out back, it's gonna be bitchin to drive.
i got one too mines not a dually doesnt look like it ever was got a 20r stuck a g52 behind it used it for year as a tow rig pulled way more than any toy ever should pulled tandem 16 ft flatbed filled with scrap
Nice! I love the look of slammed duallies. IMO there is not much that gets sexier than that. Good luck with the build.can't wait to see how it turns out.
Awsome truck gonna be sick slammed and tucked .i got side tracked for a minute there somebody started talkin bout rats holding machine guns shooting at logs Dafuq ....
Oh I see... Unfortunately the dually wheels are long gone. But you had to widen your dually flares to be able to tuck the duals, so I'm kinda glad I don't have to deal with that. I've been thinking lately that an 8 lug hub extender on the front would be cool. And then run factory dodge 16 or 17 inch dually wheels.
