So last year I rebuilt my 22re. I replaced almost everything. I didn't replace any of the sensors or egr stuff. So lately its been running rough and smells like its running rich. The exhaust pipe has a nice black ring around the end of it. So last night I adjusted the tps and the idle. On the way to work this morning as I would come to a stop I could hear a clicking noise coming from the computer area and it would almost die. I would give it a little throttle and It would stop. Also when I took the throttle body off there was a thick black build up on the back of the throttle body and inside the intake. I just replaced the coolant sensor on the front of the intake also. Any ideas on where I should look
I would recheck your timing, if your getting black crap in your intake the valves probably are not closing before it fires which causes oil and carbon to be thrown into the intake, Set motor at 5* tdc and adjust distributor till the line is matched with the 0* mark at idle
also, check the TPS itself, make sure its not bad. i found this to be My bad idle probelm on my truck. also on a side note -if u try to set the timing -and you jump the wires -and timing doesnt change (timing mark on the crank) -then u have a "component" issue --as is with mine =the tps sensor. just a little extra info
Well I believe I had the idle set too low, I adjusted it and the clicking went away. I set the timing to 0 degrees when I adjusted the tps. How would I go about checking the afm? I think the tps is good because the idle changed when I removed the jumper. It also seemed like it got better mileage after adjusting the tps. Im going to see how it runs then re-adjust the valves to see if that helps. How long should the factory sensors last? All of mine are factory (except for the one I just changed) and Im going to replace the o2 sensors once I get back under it and find the numbers. Are there any more that should be replaced?
if the o2 sensors are bad, u will get a code -especially cuz its for emmissions system. usually if the AFM is bad, u will get poor throttle response, backfiring, popping on acceleration, things of that nature -cuz the ECM is trying to calculate a/f from the AFM readings -and is unable to do it correctly. --from my understanding. (and will more than likely throw a code) if the valves are not adjusted properly, can cause truck to run poorly due to incorrect valve lash. makes sense to me lol
