Well I figure I would make this thread so people know what they can swap to instead of searching under count less threads frankly I want a bigger brake's for my truck but what option's do we have?. I have read a bunch of stuff in this site but it would be nice to have it all in one thread plz note the size of rim you have to run so it clears
The one I'm planning is the 1st gen LS400 fronts. gotta redrill and tap 1 hole on the caliper bracket and supposedly it all lines up. I can never find the relevant thread when I'm looking for it though.
This has the jist of it..... Vicoor's Fabrication Challenge - Page 2 - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums If I was to do it again, I'd like to use 94-04 mustang cobra front and rear brakes on my truck. The rotor mounting would be very similar, and probably a custom caliper bracket adapter. Easy peasy. Would need at least 17 in wheels. Not really needed though because I can stop from 130 like its nothing. Never even got close to heating the brakes up to a fade level.
I have scene thread's on the v6 4x4 swap but there's not that many pads to choose from aka street race pads i am kinda after some thing that will fit under 16 rim but i may copy raffa
What are looking for in a "street race" pad? Most of the pads on the market aren't real aggressive. I thought they were until I bought Wilwood's Polymatrix E compound pads. They are labeled "Street Strip", but are real agressive. Sure they stop good, but you can hear them eating the rotor, (and that's their least aggressive "Strip" pad). After contacting them, they told me that there is another compound that wasn't listed on their site at the time that worked way better for the street. They'll still put you through the windshield if you aren't holding on... The pads that are available for the 4x4 calipers are still going to give you at least 50% better stopping power than the stock calipers, if not 100%. It's an amazing difference. The Wilwood setup I'm running now is a slight bit better than that, but a bit more pricey. I'm currently machining caliper adapters to run the Wilwood caliper with the Wilwood rotor from my original brake thread.
I have a 12.9" rotor & 4 piston set up @ the front & a 11.32'' rotor & single 42 mm piston w/ e-brake @ the rear ,see my post or e-mail me for photo's & info!
My plan (this summer) is to switch the rear end to a rebuilt, Ford 8.8. That'll give an upgrade to disks and a bigger brake setup that will still fit under 15 inch wheels. (stock on "Second Gen" Explorers) Then I figured I'd make brackets to fit the front brakes from the Explorer as well. I believe the Explorer was rated to tow something like 5000 pounds or more but can't remember the exact number. I remember when I first bought it, I was amazed what the people at the rv show said what camping trailers could be towed with it. I figure if the brakes are good enough for towing, they should be ample for stopping my little truck.
Wow Just found out that sky line r32 gtr brake's are pretty much a direct swap over all ya have to do is turn the floating hub flange down and add in about 1/8th of spacer between the tabs only down fall it will space out your front wheels about 1/8th of an inc i have some pic's i don't have the cash to do the swap right nwo just borrowed my buddie front brakes to see if it will swap over and it does
