Howdy again, rather than repeat everything I said in my introduction post, I just wanted to post the URL for the little website I'm making for my 1988 pickup project.

I'll be updating the pages as more gets done. There's three pages right now, just plain text and lots of photos. She's supposed to be painted this week, so I'll go in and take some more shots of all her "parts" in their new color.

It's not as bad as it looks...

Y'all enjoy the tale! And yeah, it's costin' WAY more than my initial thought of "$4k tops"...lordy...way more. But it'll be worth it when she's finally done!

EDIT: oops...dumb newbie (me) put this in the wrong Sub forum...belongs in the one for 88 projects...if one of the admins could please put it in the right spot, I'd appreciate it. If not, delete it, and I"ll repost in the proper place. Sorry for not figuring out how it all works yet!

Yep...we've lived in Austin for over 30 years...always lived on the South side, and "Far" South for the last 25 years.

My sweetie just wanted her to look different when the original paint started to go bad. Didn't wanna go too far out with gluing stuff to her or anything like that...although she did consider gluing some plastic pink flamingos to her one time, and thankfully thought better of it....we both always wanted Li'l Truck to be "all gussied up" the right way some day.

And TurboBlowThrough: what kind of steering wheel did you put in yours? I had'nt really thought of replacing it totally, was just hoping to find a "NON-GOOEY" cover some day. I guess I'd worry about the horn functioning, and the new wheel "matching" the rest of the interior without being too jarring to look at. I've seen some steering wheels that just make me wanna do a "face-palm" before!

And thank y'all for replying, even tho' I was a dunce and posted this in the wrong "build up" sub forum!

    Update: 01-31-13!!!!!

Howdy all, just updated Li'l Truck's website with a fourth page, and here's the link.

    Indian Turquoise Abides!

Link at the bottom of that page takes you back to page one.

The "cut in" turned out fantastic. Got a bit of a disappoinment as far as the upholstery, but something I'll have to live with. Full story on the page above.

ANd I hope all the Pre-75 Truck owners don't hate me for posting this thread in the wrong sub-forum...I've sent a PM to the site admin about moving this to the 88 forum, but haven't heard anything back.

regaurdless the truck is coming along great! the color looks good and (imho) compliments the truck. did you happen to take any snaps of the interior while you were at the shop?

ps.. there are many threads that get started in the wrong section so dont feel bad.

Thanks...Li'l Truck is definitely gonna "rock" her new color!:headbang:

Didn't get any pics of the seat bottom re-done, didn't take the camera into that shop, as I didn't expect 'em to have anything done yet. It DOES look sharp, just like it did when it was new. Yeah, I'll just live with it.

And thanks also for lettin' me know it's no biggie that I put this in the wrong spot!

    Li'l Truck UPDATE 03-13-13

WooHOO! We got PAINT! Man, I'm happy. I think Char would be proud. Can't wait to see her with all her chrome.

Looks like I'm gonna need a new tailgate, which was kinda expected, and they should have the bedliner sprayed in by next week, wheels to the powdercoater (check out the color on the page below...I think it'll look killer). So a coupla weeks at the body shop still, and then back to Rising Sun to have the engine and AC installed and rest of the mechanicals finished....so maybe by this time next month? We'll see.

Y'all check out the new page:

    Yowzah!

Link to first page to follow the whole story up til now:

It's not as bad as it looks...

Thanks y'all...I'm gettin' excited about gettin' closer to the finish line...

Gave Larry the go-ahead to clean the frame up and paint it, as well, since it just makes sense to get it done while it's apart. SO that'll get done, too....!

Li'l Update: Wheels done, frame painted

Just now getting a chance to sit down and post this. Had out-of-state visitors for a week. Got to take them by the shop and check things out. Wheels came out amazingly good...the slightly darker powder-coat looks great.

They'd been wet-sanding her, so there was dust everywhere, but the frame is really nicely done glossy black (tried to wipe the dust away in one pic to show the gloss). This week supposed to be shooting the bed liner and finishing the assembly to roll her back to Rising Sun for the engine/etc to finally be re-installed. Hopefully done by the end of the month...maybe? hopefully? Hey, no matter WHEN, it's gonna look great.

    Enjoy: Gettin' Closer!

    ...grumblegrumble...

Hey y'all. Went up to the body shop yesterday, and they had done basically NOTHING in the last month, except to spray the bed liner.

It looks OK, in general, but those dents in the front wall of the bed stand out even MORE than they did with just paint, and I really don't like how it looks. Paint guy said he would take a rubber mallet and flatten them, as as well as banging out the dents in the fender wells.

They had the bed sitting outside, bird poop all over it, and what pissed me off the most was that they had put a dent and a scrape in it by evidently hitting it while moving a trashcan!

I've been "down in my back" this whole last month, lots of chiropractor visits, so I couldn't be "on top of it" like I shoulda been.

I'm going back up there Monday to talk to the head guy again. I'm not really a happy camper. Since it's also a "collision center" they shove me to the side while they have an influx of bread-and-butter insurance-paid wrecks come in.

They've had Li'l Truck for more than six months now. I'm gonna have to give them a "finish date" and maybe get it in writing. The guy at Rising SUn is getting pissed that the body guys have taken so long. He's tired of having my engine/tranny/parts layin' around.

The second-in-command at the body shop said that Alan (Rising Sun) had come in and was grousin' about it yesterday. His words? "I don't want the guy to DIE on me before this damn thing is finished!" ha.

SO, I'm a little PO'd, a lot disillusioned, and just need to put a boot up somebody's rear and get things rollin' again. I've paid the body shop (gulp) nearly $7,400 so far. Not really feelin' the "love" right now.

Here's a few pics of the bed liner, note how those dents just jump out now with the liner on 'em. And yeah, the rest of the liner itself looks OK, but those lumps just jump out at my eyeballs. Oh, and they still haven't found me a good tailgate. I'll see what they have to say on Monday.

If they can't find me a decent tailgate (old-style, w/2 clamp handles) on their own, I might hafta enlist y'all's help to find one!

Yeah that sounds like bull fish. Sorry to hear that your getting jurked I've seen this happen before all they care about is there DRP's aka insurance jobs and the customer pay gets pushed to the side that's why I work for service king can't stand the little shops you would think since there a little guy they would be fast and good because biusness is mostly word of mouth. Well I hope everything comes together for you soon. Oh yeah rising sun is a great mechanic shop use to know the old owner.
