Has anyone done this on the first gen pick ups? Ive looked on the web a bit an all I could find was nothing but 4x4 and mudders who do this stuff. Im swapping in a 1jz and obviously that ****s not gunna fit. I want to keep the front end stock so moving the radiator core support is a no go. I know taurus fans are epic but will my truck still be a daily driver if i do this? Thinking about running that stainless flex radiator hose through and through. Also my truck is pretty much static dropped (has some suspension travel). I will be doing a write up as well.

It's doable. I could imagine you could mount it on the bottom if you'd like.

another issue with tarus fans are they are big...... work awesome however as long as you have the correct relays.

cutting the core and possibly the firewall would be my suggestion keeping it in the stock location. Need to have enough airflow to it and in teh back there is always issue with bleeding the system and IF you run stainless to the back make sure it is big enough to move the coolant.

Another thing to consider, that far to push coolant is a lot of work for the stock water pump.

Thanks for the info guys. Im really looking foward to doing this swap. Im ordering my 1JZ shortly from jdmtigerjapanese.com Ive also found some motor mounts that fit the 3rd gens. I know all R series have the same brackets so hopefully they fit. Moving the firewall back is not an option due to i will also then have to mount the the mounts further back to and thus the engine and the shifter will sit too far back, because im keeping my nostalgic bench seat. Ill post some pics of the interior soon. i dont like buckets because they restrict head and neck movement too much. Keep in mind going for the jdm nostalgic look. Trying to keep this build under 4k. Have a mk3 IRS rear end im gunna put in the rear. Yeah buddy

R and the frist gen 4 speed will make ya cut the cab and at that point it is easy to sink the engine in

you can cut the fire way and not have that issues and the shifter monte can be flipped

shifter rod will have to be cut and flipped and re tigged welded so ti will move the shifter up about 8 incs or so

I think I'm considering the firewall. alot easier and will look alot better. Probably cut the shift and weld it to fit

for r154 yes it wonte fit with out cutting or hammering it's a bigger trans

only issue with w58 is clutch cost more since you have to buy an upgraded one
there good for about 400 in supra then they start to peel gears and easy as hell to get out of that motor

    pro's of w58

    shifting is smoother
    smaller
    easy to find
    lite

    cons

    weaker

    pros of r154

strongest 5 speed in a factory car (mix wiht marlin upgrade parts it cna be 1000 plus hp holding sob with slicks)
lots of option's for shifter bases ei location of shifter
plus style clutch more clamp load with less pedal effort

    cons

thrust washer is no good for none sprung clutch's it will break (marlin has an upgrade kit that solves this problem thou)
littel clunky to shift but not horrible (I kinda like it a little more, has notch to it)
    kinda heavy
    harder to find

Plan on major metal surgery to get that 6 to fit. I tried to fit a 5mge in my 82. Sucker was tight! A first gen truck will be almost impossible without redoing the trans tunnel/firewall.

Wish it was easy, but you have to remember a mk4 supra hood is like twice as long as your pickups.

Gunna start a new build up thread as ive already started. Thanks for the help guys. Going for a W58 tranny because i wont be doing any major upgrades to the engine. Keeping it stock for reliability and due to the fact i want a balanced truck. Not building a dragster. My old 20r took a **** and don't feel like trying to rebuild it and squeeze power out of it. Cheaper to swap it.

a heavery tranny will help balance the truck better lol

plus you can buy the engine with the tranny still on it for not much more

upgraded w58 clutch going to coat's ya about 600 or more then ya still have to buy the tranny as well

A balanced truck with a big block heavy 1jz.

Um no. Trust be it will be a under steering nose heavy pig. I promise.

    But fast though!

I've blown up 2 w58s with my ~130-140hp hybrid. They are not as strong as you think. Just speaking from experience.
