Soooo... I took my first step into the world of lowrider trucks couple days ago. Through much negotiation and haggling, plus a little bribing with gay porn. I acquired Predracer's old '79 Yota. Right now the plans are to drive it, teach my 15 year old daughter how drive a stick in it, and this winter break it down and fix...

    Well, everything.

Not gonna change it or the way it looks, just make it run better, and maybe try and smooth out the ride a bit. Now, every car I've ever owned has been lowered. But I've never owned a lowered truck. So far I've done nothing to it, haven't even put gas in it yet. But man do I love this truck.

    Anyway on to the pics...

And last but certainly not least, the '79 Yota

Welcome! The '79-'83 trucks will always be my all time favorite. I've had mine since Nov 1981 when I was a Jr in HS.

Can someone please school me on those wide ass wheels? I know I'm probably in the minority on here but I just don't get it?

This is what I think of when I look at those wheels

That's an EZ one. A trip to the tire store would help. You would probably have to lift your truck 5"+ when you get a proper tire for those rims.

Because we like the way it looks. The stretched tires allowed me to run a very aggressive offset to give the truck a wide stance. It's just another subculture of the car scene.

From years of installing these I learned the reason for doing this is not necessarily looks but for a function.. The function is to give clearance on the wheel well, cars with independent suspension camber in while the suspension is depressed. A stretched tire allows an angle on the side wall to be able to run super aggressive offset wheels with out rubbing the fender... Kinda the same for clambering wheels it's supposed to be for clearance not necessarily looks, but I will say if done properly it does look pretty sexy... :waytogo:
