I found a kid that has a 82' Toyota 4x4 short bed truck he wants to sale... (best way to discribe it) tan in color, has an 88' bed on it bc the old one was rusted out, "something is wrong with the motor" but it runs, small hole on passenger side floorboard from rust, bed is primered, everthing else works. I found out he was looking to get a Datson 240Z and was trying to sale his truck to put money down on one he saw for $4000 (73 240Z) luckily i had a 74 260Z I had laying around . pics are below...the car did run before i removed the mangled wiring harness, and needs a rear diff mount bc it is broke and hit the rear floor when you hit the gas hard. obviously needs some body work, but mostly surface rust except for the upper driver finder by the tail light has a small rust hole. here is my question: would it be a good even trade for these two vehicle with the info i have provided?
Both are going to require time and money. Personally, both would be better spent on that 82' than on that Z. Just my opinion. Then again, you have to go where your passion is. Because if you run out of both time and money, it's all that you will have left to keep you from giving up on the project completely.
thats what i was thinking! I've had the Z for about a year and kinda couldn't find the time to work on it. (lost intrest to do so) really want a Mini 4x4! anyone else? need your input!
hmmm, i like both vehicles but the old z's are a dime a dozen around here, and running 4x4 yotas aren't. you should do it.
i see the z's on craigslist frequently- for less than a grand. and there are a ton of them at the junkyard i go to. 4x4 yotas on craigslist in running condition usually go for 2-4k regardless of the year. maybe its because i'm on the other side of the country.
4x4 yotas around my area go for about the same, year plays a little bit in price but not to much IMO..
trade the 260z is going to take alot more time and effort to get on the road the way you should/would do it the yota on the other hand with even a couple of thousand can be turned in to a perfect weekend wheeler or a camping rig or dd etc.
i think if you took both of em and fixed em up the Z would fetch more. but the yota needs less work, and sounds to be missing few things unlike the Z but factor in the "wants" along with which car is in worse shape, id say you be making quite the deal for the yota.
Well, went to look at the truck. need a new battery, the floorboards are not in great shape, but repairable. The frame had some questionable places. over all not that bad, but not that good. But I think It might be a fair trade...Still got some thinking to do.
Thats a tough call. Too bad you couldn't get some pics of the truck up. Personally i think about it this way. Up here in Canada those old Z's are rare! And the ones you do find are in BAD shape. But if there are lots of them down there then your not really loosing out on much if they really go for less than a grand. A decent one in Ottawa goes for about 7G. You could sell that for like 2G to a canadian.... like my buddy who is Datsun nuts lol. I would take the truck. Sounds like it could be a good complete tear down project that you can build up from scratch. Guess its what you love more, old Zed cars or your Yota's! Ps its funny you say the rear diff mount broke. My buddy's 240Z had the same thing happen to him!
