Been lurking for a while and now I am gonna start my build thread...I have an 82 toyota 2wd my original plan was to take the running gear out of an 84 4runner and make it 4x4 and use it as a DD weekend warrior but I have to rebuild my parts and until I get the $$ to do the 4x4 swap Im gonna static drop and cruise it like that for a while.
Started out rebuilding the engine while I was at it I put on remaned 20r head that had never been shaved. bored .040, 261 cam, built block off plates to desmog, rebuilt 22r carb and tuned it by installing different sized jets from different year model carbs...time consuming, installed 22r carb adapter, installed aluminum rockers (84+ 22r). 2.5" exhuast not cat and a cheap raptor muffler (25 bucks)
I then started on the interior, the dash pad was busted to heck so I fiberglassed, bondo, and glazed the crap out of it and got it looking good then I textured it with some rattle can texture for lawn furnature from Wal mart then painted it tan rather than the original blue. I then installed a 84 4runner sr5 sunroof into my 82..with a hack saw blade.......I tore out the original blue door panels, and head liner and built my own out of 1/4 lauan, carpet padding and marine vinyl sorry I dont have any pics of me doing the dash or building the door panels and headliner but I do have pics of me building the sunroof cover and the door panels and head liner went he same way. Start out by making a patern then transfering it to the 1/4 lauan add carpet pad yes I said carpet pad like in the house. only problem is it has hard pieces in it and it shows through the vinyl then wrap it decorate with 82 toy emblem...lol its a little off. add scuff plates for the sunroof hinges and latches to hold it up and install
All that work for the 20R head and and you are choking the crap outta it with the shock header...sad.
Thanks! here are some pics of the door panels and such they look like this and I have the cut outs already in the wood for the speakers at the back of the door all I have to do is cut the vinyl and install a speaker, the arm rest is now tan I picked up a couple of them. I took the instrument cluster apart and painted the face to match the dash that I fiberglassed..... The only thing I did stupid on the dash was I drilled a bunch of little holes for the speaker in the dash..... The head liner I had to make in two pieces to get it to fit.
I did check some info on that and for what I wanted LOWEND remember I was gonna build a 4x4 the stock was just fine not enough power to investment for me plus I have a 261 cam which gives me low end power. As for exhaust, allow me to (loosely) quote Ted from Engnbldr, one of the most expert 22r builders out there: "The best setup we have found is to use the excellent factory exhaust manifold, then a high flow universal cat, straight-thru style muffler, and 2.25" piping." plus Im choking it more with the stock air cleaner...LOL.....
Then I started building a dash bezel to replace the one I busted to heck taking the dash out....started with aluminum sheet...IDK the thickness sorry formed it and guess what I JB welded it together and it has held!!!!!! tore a motorcycle under glow apart to make a dash light (blue) cut it up my heat controls painted it sorry I do not have a installed pic but I will get one tonight and compair the before to the after...in a later post!
Bobbed the bed 12 1/4"s still thinking I was gonna 4wheel the thing and as a bonus my fiberglass campershell fits now tacked it on the inside
