Hey guys need your input or help on this I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone's truck here on this forum or not?I was on my way to work and started to turn at a a stop light when all of a sudden my truck sputtered like it was running out of gas and it died? I ended up pushing it into a parking lot ( thank God these trucks are light) and tried to start it back up? It cranked but no start? I ended up just leaving it alone since I didn't want to drain the battery it was pouring rain this last Friday. My first thought was the fuel pump went out but then decided to inspect further. I checked the fuses and sure enough my EFI fuse was blown 15amp? I used my 15amp fuse from the radio and dropped it into the EFI slot and it fired up and I left it running for a while just to make sure it wouldn't blow again and it didn't? Is this some sort of sign of something going out? I'm just wondering what could of caused the fuse to blow? Any input or help would be great.
I'd carry around some fuses just in case I wouldn't stress it to much sometimes old fuses just get tired or a slight voltage spike can pop an old fuse . If it continues then might have to digg further
Yeah thanks bro! Went over to Autozone and bought a bunch! Don't know why I haven't carried spare fuses in my truck in the first place lol!
Yea all are trucks are getting the age if not already there to carry around a small repair kit I keep a small bag in my truck with essential socket sizes and few other oddball tools and of course duct tape
Started to look into this on the web. looks like I need to check my o2 sensor wiring I guess its a common problem with these trucks when the wiring touches the exhaust and burns it can trigger a EFI fuse blow?
if its no the o2 wiring check your harness under your wheel well.... probably driver side... if your car is lowered its possible that tires have been rubbing on the splash guard and might have kissed the harness...
o2 sensor wiring is a very common issue and most likely your cause. its happened to me and iv seen it many times before.
Just an update the fuse hasn't blown since and when I pulled the old fuse out I noticed that it looked to be old or maybe the original one. I keep a set of fuses in the truck from now on just in case. Thanks to all for your help and input on this.
Well this is a situation that I have had too. I cant find the bad wire either. Its a very good chance that its a hotcwire grounding out. The first week i had the truck it did it to me. Then went 2 years befire it happened again. Ive had the truck for 2 1/2 years and its blown 3 times. I. Carry extra fuses and any time im doing something under the hood or underneth I do a fair look over. Figure one day ill find it.
+1 for the harness falling on the exhaust and popping the fuse.... had it happen in my old pre runner Yota
