Alright just like it says, I'm making excellent progress on the engine build for my truck and want to start planning on the exterior for january. I had been assuming just remove the pannels and hammer in what I could, and just get more familiar with auto body repair, But I stumbled on a website discountbodyparts.com and found new fenders for a good price. But turns out their listings only go as late as 1979 and my truck is a 78. I'm not scared to modify or do whats necessary to make things fit on what I have on the truck now, But if i was to buy a new clean surfaced part I would like it to bolt up and align easily and properly. So two questions... Whats so different from a 79 fender to a 78 fender. Where does everyone get their body parts from? REVEAL YOUR SOURCES!!!
78 and 79 is 2 completely different body styles, so they won't bolt up. there isn't really any sheetmetal sources for the 69-78 trucks. keep an eye on craigslist, junkyards and ebay.
Thankyou. I tried to compare pictures on Google between the two years, but that got me nowhere as far as differences in fenders, but now I know for sure. I'll just stick with the hammer and filler plan.
Your best bet would be check the junkyards. You probably won't find a true straight body panel but if you have some that are in bad shape you may find some that are in a bit better shape(less rust, more straight, etc) the less body work you have to do the better in my opinion.
