I have a 93 2wd with a 22re that was loosing coolant and and running rough. i am under the assumption that the head gasket is blown. I am down to the timing cover and starting to wonder if should just pull the whole engine or just the head. The truck has about 200K miles and the compression was good (about 140-150 psi). I am not rich so i want to keep it low budget but on the same token I like my truck and hope to keep it for a long time.

I would only pull the head.check chain guides while you're in there.

 

Thanks. I pulled the head and I can clearly see on the right rear side it has been leaking. Plan on taking it to the shop to be rebuilt.
