Did what I could do until I get myself a welder... I have got to get me one asap. Figured I would sand a few things to the metal. You cant beat how clean Metal looks...

The wiper cowl and the roll pan that i need welded on.... so clean. lol

The little wood pieces are for my subwoofer box. I fiberglassed the pieces. Going to sand and bondo them later this week.

    bed work begins

Been doing a bunch of thinking about what I want to do with the yota. Ive always wanted to do something wild and original with the frame from the front clip back. But, with what little time I have, tools, and other reasons I figured it was best to just do a simple notch. Im going to BD the bed and cab but doing it the simplest way possible. I just want something clean and I want to do all the work. Means more to me if Im doing it rather than paying someone.

Figured I would start on the bed...

I punched and drilled out the spot welds, then marked and cut the fender out. Ill be doing the pass side asap, didnt want to get carried away with the gas tank being on the pass side.

Ill be slowly working on the bed throughout the next week of so. Ill post pics as the work is going

yeah i installed it.. Cant remember where I bought it from though. Sorry. Maybe Jc Whitney?? IDK. It came molded already though. Makes for an easy install, just trim the edges near the rocker panels. They come slightly larger so you can make sure it fits well. I have the extended cab, But if your working with a single cab you may be able to find a big ol piece of thin carpet and make it work. I bought mine about 3 years ago, so idk what the price of it was. makes for a clean/new look in the interior.

    Bed Fenders Removed..

Like always, once you do something the first time the second time is half the time. Got the pass side off rather easy..

Im trying to find all the spot welds for the rear of the bed next to the tail gate now..

So after attending Scr8pfest, I couldnt resist. Stopped at a Tractor Supply on the way home and bought a welder. Nothing special.. Jobsmart, 125 Fluxcore MIG. A buddy of mine has one and it works just fine for him. Still need a helmet and some wire. I was told i should buy the .035 rather than the .030.

Im still working on the the Stock raised floor. Finally got most the spot welds drilled through. Im doing things a little different. Will see how it works out. When I get the wire, which will probably be friday, Im going to cut the bed sides.

Here are a few pics though...

Heres my ol welder. Cleaned all the spots where i will be welding. Took the template out for the tail lights. I needed to redo the welds. Got my marks started for the cutting of the inner bed for the raise. I dont know what it is about the bed of a truck being off. Looks so badazz when its laid out (mine isnt, but one day) lol

89 Regular Cab. The weirdo with the stock suspension.
Looks great! looks like excellent work your doing. But get a welding helmet before you start! Harbor Freight has them for relatively cheap. I think I bought my auto darkening helmet for $40 on sale and it works good. I cringe when I see people on tv spot welding without a helmet and just closing theyre eyes before making the spot weld.
That sub box looks awesome! I wish I had room for something like that, but in the single cabs the room isnt there. What kind of system are you going to go with?

Thanks bud, I bought one the other day for $36 from there. Got it on sale along with some C-clamps and a free tape measure. Cant beat it. Just bought some more hardener for my fiberglass. So hopefully Ill be able to work on that a little more this weekend. I have all audiobahn Highs so Ill more than likely go with either 2 or possibly 3 10" subs with an audiobahn amp.

    Shaved gas door and more..

I was able to spend a little more time in the garage today than I normally do so I took advantage and did a little more work on the bed.

I got some angle iron tacked in to give the bed somewhat a little strength for when i cut the bed sides to do the raised stock floor.

I also have asked a few people what they did to shave their gas door and some posted and said they shaped some metal to fit and welded it in. I thought it would be easier to make the original door fit, cut some scrap metal for the key hole and tack that all in. Seemed to work just fine. All I need to do now is to bondo and prime it.

Hopefully I can finish welding in the tail light fillers and bondo.

Here are some pics, enjoy :headbang:

Alright, so its been a while. Ive done a little work here and there but I finally installed the roll pan, just a little more welding and grinding. I also filled in the gas door and threw a little bondo on it. Needs some more attention to get it looking better. I also welded the tail light templates in and put some bondo on. they should look awesome when im finished. I also fully welded the tail light fillers in and had some extra bondo to slap on there, I just need to completely do the body work around the tail light fillers. When im finished with the rear, it should look pretty sweet. I cant wait...

Thanks bud, I love it too. It gives a completely different look from behind the vehicle. And naw, I've done all the mods to the truck. It had a sliding glass, I did some hunting and found one that would fit. The single cab back glass is like 2 or 3 inches shorter in height that a extended cab. I still have the sliding glass, I need to sell it.

Havent done a bunch of work since my last post... Finally got the roll pan welded in and did a little of body work on the tail light fillers. I also took some time to cut off the tabs of that you see inside the fenders. I tend to pay attention to the small crap, and thats one thing that always bothers me.

here are a few pics though...

I was able to call around a few glass companys and they had 1 in stock . simple and just needs a gasket . but like I said a single cab glass is much shorter than the extended cab glass. just apply pressure to the glass and run the gasket on the inside. it helps to run a rope through the gasket and pull it from the inside of the cab while pressing on the back side of the glass
