Hello guys, im new to the toyota & truck scene and i just purchased a 1978 short bed Toyota Hilux..will post pictures of it later (got it for 200 bucks so you can imagine what it looks like haha)

i want to do a motor swap for sure, my thing is i cant do any sort of fabrication where im at because i dont have the right tools. So im wondering what is the BIGGEST FASTEST motor i can do a DIRECT BOLT ON?

i did do some research and know the biggest motor that truck came with was the 1975–1978 – 2.2 L (2,189 cc) 20R SOHC I4, 72 kW (98 PS; 97 hp)...But i know you guys know what other years trucks i can swap.

i dont mind buying different motor mounts to put in a whole nuther manufacturers engine but i CAN NOT do any kind of welding or cutting..

Thank for the help in advance guys

I just bought and will be dropping in a 22r 2.4 in the truck. There shouldnt be any needs to do fabbing. And also ditch the stock carb and crown it with a webber 32/36 carb. Friends truck has it and its a screamer.
