I picked this '75 Longbed RN28 up back in May from Brandon aka drama808. Flat towed it behind my '86 4runner with some impromptu rigging 160 miles - hardly noticed it was there. Brandon had started his build here, however life got in the way for him and I got the opportunity to save it from the scrap pile. I saw a pic of it on FB that had trickled down through the grapevine, and just couldn't help but own the hideous Green Goblin. Upon arrival, it was clear that the rings were hosed, so I promptly tore it all down. As it currently stands, the build sheet is: '75 Toyota Hilux '81 22R '75 20R Cylinder Head 20R Offenhauser, Weber 32/36 Doug Thorley header '88 Supra G58 '85 W56 Celica Shifter '86 W56-B 4runner Bellhousing '91 2wd V6 3.42 Differential MkIII Supra LSD '88 Starion wheels As she sits for now: I've wasted a bunch of time on various Yota forums over the years, and this pile of parts is something that wouldn't leave my head until I built it. Some stuff I had on hand, a bunch I had to source, but all said and done it should be a fun little beater!
nice! i call mine the goblin also. only cuz its the 94 dark green color n the body is all messed up n sloppy lol ---so im looking to put an lsd in too. the supra's bolt right in?!?!? more info pleese!
damn. nice find/build!!! great write up. need to research for more details though. very interesting. i was looking at getting a tru-trac lsd, just bolts in from what i heard, but about $600-700, is it worth it to spend the extra cash for a "plug-n-play" unit instead of trying to piece one together. i try to live by one of my life's motto's -it can apply to lots of things from shopping, fast food, car parts, tools, and yes even strippers n strip clubs = if u want the good **** u better be ready to spend the money!
The Supra is a plug and play unit. You take one Supra bearing, one v6 bearing from the stock diff and the MkIII LSD, and stuff them all into a v6 3rd. Works like a charm. Factory ring/pinion from the truck bolts right up as well. Zuk has 5 builds along with tons of tech info on his site Toyota Gear Installs
o i c. well if my truck has the 7.5in rear end, i dont think it'll fit cuz the v6 has 8in rear end. so my axle housing is too small.
Correct. However I do believe the 7.5 will take the MkII Celica LSD. Never played with one of them though.
so ...hypethetically, i could purchase an lsd for mkII celica n should bolt in??? -is what im thinking
