What's up fellas. I'm Zach, 24, and I just picked up a 78 long bed 10 days ago, bought it over the phone and drove it 8.5 hrs home with a top speed of 55mph. Ended up loosing probably 5 years off my life as well, but I'm still tripping that the little truck made the trip. Now that its home I can begin the mods and restore it back to glory. Back ground on the truck is its a 78 4 speed, and it unfortunatly has the 21r-u under the hood. From what I've researched its not the ideal candidate and it already failed the compression test horribly so I'm just going to drop in a 22r over the winter, but right now I'm still chasing gremlins and shaking my head at a lot of previous "fixes" that were made on the truck. I'm having issues attaching pics from my EVO4g so ill have to open a Photobucket account I guess to post up some pics. But looking forward to joining.
Welcome Zach!!! Glad you are giving this 1978 truck another chance to prove it durability. That's a good move to drop in a 22R motor, but once you work out all of the bugs it will be a great truck. I've owned my truck for 31 years and I will never get rid of it. It's such a fun truck to drive alongside my '93 5.0L Mustang. Rick
Agree, once the gremlins are worked out, it will be dependable and functional. Plus EVERYONE loves the 78!!!!!!!!!! Best looking Toyota out there!!!! If you need anything, just ask and remember that people here loves pictures... I would love to see the engine and interior of that trcuk before mods start happenning... CHEERS!!!!!
