So my 22r pickup wont idle it just dies I had the carb rebuilt twice nd I think it failed again I'm so pissed!!! Well rite now it just turns on bt u have to step on the gas pedal to keep it alive bt as soon as u let go it dies what do u guys suggest I'm tyred of rebuilding diz pos carb to fail every six months please help its my daily driver!
have you tried adjusting your idle screw.Make sure all your vacuum lines are secure or plugged. You can also adjust your dist. position to compensate. Those old stock carbs get cranky especially after rebuilding.Highly recomend the Weber 32/36 all your carb issues will be a thing of the past.
I second that..Weber would be best..ders 3 thing that start your car.. spark Fuel Air This 3 makes your car start and run..diagnose by eliminating
Sounds like you have a big air leak somewhere. Also I know you have to do smog cause your here in Cali so a weber is a no go. Did you just rebuild the carb and its running like this or did it run for awhile and now wont start and run. A little more info could help.
Well I idid adjust the idle bt no help it got rebuilt six months ago it ran fine til yesterday it didn't wana stay in idle it turned on but I had to floor it then today in the morning it turned on stayes on nd wen it got hot it died off wat could explain dat
Also checked plugs electrical distributor nd ders sparks nd power it just sounds awful wen I keep my foot on it so it stays on also the exhaust smelled like firecrakers nd the carb was shooting lots of gas its running rich bt I tried to adjust the mixture bt no help
Also I don't care bout smoggin it doesn't pass anyways cuz I desomgged it since i git the truk three years ago weber sounds kool bt pricey I'm on a budget bt wat would b better 32/36 or 38??
Yea its stock filter nd yea I set my float low so it wont die but still nun it justs running really rich nd rite now I did a mickey mouse job were I adjusted the gas cable so the rpms are high so it can stay on sounds like a race motor lol wat else do u guys suggest I check
Running rich . Needle and seat functioning right I assume sense your rebuilt it . So it won't idle warmed up have u checked for air leaks around the mounting area of the carb and the plastic spacer Are u saying it won't idle because its running very rich ? If it was running fine the day before and all of sudden it crapped on you might have a mechanical issue with the carb jets/air bleeds clogged / worn throttle shaft Still using the fuel cut solenoid ?
Ya make sure your buterflys are closing,. Your linkage didn't run. Your dist. isn't loose.Really look good for vacuume leak.Use a can of WD40,or carb cleaner and spray it around the base and line areas.
ya sounds like you have a huge vacuum leak and have been limping it along by keeping the idle up manually. Even if you throw a weber on this huge vacuum leak or whatever is going on it going to keep it from running right.
sounds like mechanical issue, something failed. also possible air leak. but u should be able to find/eliminate this easy w some carb cleaner spray. if its mechanical, make definitely sure its not internal in the carb, exspecially in the float itself. or might also be in fuel area. well, gotta start somewhere
Thanks guys for the help yea the distributor is fine nice nd tight so today again I tried turning it on it stayed on bt as soon as it got hot turned off wat I'm gona do is hold the rpms a lil higher to keep it on and spray carb cleaner to c if it has a leak I have the fuel cut solenoid still on nd somone also told me the electronic choke could b stuck or sum ima try to check dat too
Arkansas is nice, no smog control, no restrictions, on inspections, pretty much if it rolls and doesn't put out to much smoke it ok here.....
Well check to see if the choke plate is operating should be fully open when warm I'm sure your aware of the checking procedures tho
