I am the very happy owner of a 1995 Tacoma extended cab pickup with the small 4 cylinder, I believe the 1.4 l. I have looked for months on CL for a low mileage Toyota truck, and last week I found this one in Crowley, TX. It has 60,000 miles! It's like a time machine, although it has a gouge in the front right fender and needs a seal replaced on the engine. It's leaking a bit of oil. It was some retired guys fishing truck, and I bought it from his grandson. I look forward to learning more about this truck. I intend to have it for many years. Any advice would be appreciated, and if anyone has a set of headrests for this truck, let me know. They were missing. I paid $3800 for this truck. -Hubbard
Very Nice looking Truck. It is not a Tacoma though. It is simply a Truck or Pickup. It probably has the 2.4 Liter 22RE engine. Which is the legendary 22R engine that is fuel injected. Change the timing chain when the plastic guides break and never let it run hot cause once you warp the head it is hard to make it act right again. and it should last forever. Best of luck and post your plans for it. 22R88
On Guam where I'm from this would be a "Hilux" or "pickup" but I just found this. That is deffinetly not a Tacoma as I know it but I could be wrong according to this.Toyota Hilux - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a pic of a 1995 Toyota Tacoma.http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/1995/I guess It depends on where you're from.
That link isn't working for me. I'm not trying to be diffucult here, but when I google "1995 Tacoma", it looks exactly like my truck. I don't get it. Is it a Hilux, a Truck, or a Tacoma? Granted, it doesn't say Tacoma on it, but it's the way that it was advertised to me. Thanks!
Like I said where I'm from that would be a Hilux or Pickup with a 22re . A Tacoma has a totally different body style with a 2rz motor. The first production year is unclear to me but Guam would be considered the Asian market.
Looks like you found a solid ext cab truck welcome to the forms 60k miles that's low . As far as the name goes in the states there called pickups and everywhere else they call them hilux in 1996 Toyota brought out the tacoma a redesigned pickup with a completely new looks and a new engine and drivetrain but none the less both series are excellent trucks
Nice ride. Yeh its a pickup or truck and last of them for 95. In mid 95 Toyota came out with the tacoma and they were 1995 1/2 Tacoma.
Thanks for all of the input! It finally became clear to me when I googled 1996 Tacoma and looked at the images. Totally different truck.
Ok, so let me start over: I am apparently the proud new owner of a 1995 Extended Cab Toyota Truck. Otherwise known as a Hilux outside of the US.
Hubbard!!! Nice truck brother. Sorry about the confusion there. You came to the right place. Whats are your plans?
My plan is to do a completely stock restoration. It's pretty close already. So far, I need a passenger side fender in dark blue, and a couple of headrests. I'm gonna take it to my mechanic this week to get the rear seal replaced.
It turns out to have needed a valve cover gasket and a gasket or seal for the pan. Engine is looking clean now with no oil leaking!
