Hey guys, i am very new to the toyota world. I recently got my hands on an "old model" hilux. I think its the MK3. Chasis number is YN106-0006242.

Now it has a 4wheel drive manual transmission.

However, it came with a petrol engine and the previous owner did not take very good care of the engine. So it does NOT work anymore.

I now need another engine, but i have decided to go with a diesel engine.

I will be doing all the works myself, but i need some help in choosing an engine.

I would prefer a DIESEL engine that will bolt straight on to the existing transmission. (it works pretty well) and it'll be nice if you guys can help me with what engine i should look for. The present engine has the starter bolted onto the right side of the vehicle (right hand drive) and the exhaust is to the left.

Any assistance or advice will be much appriciated. if you know a website that'll be able to help me , that'll be pretty nice too!

Thanks guys, and i hope to be part of this hilux group for a long while!

    I love off roading!

Well to be honest over here in the states those trucks didn't come with a diesel. I don't know if other places it was but if you are state side its pretty much not going to happen.

I dont think he's stateside with the right side drive. Sounds like a big project. Btw what is actually wrong with the existing motor.

I stand corrected after some googleing there is a diesel available to that vehicle. I know nothing about it I didn't even know it existed until tonight. Swapping one from gas to diesel though doesnt sound like fun, might have to go as far as a full fuel tank swap with lines, engine harness and motor. I dont even know if it bolt to that trans or not. Interesting problem ya go there.

The 2.4t ln130 diesel motor shares the same mounts as a 22re gas motor the diesel motor will sit a tad bit higher think about 3/4 of inch the ln130 would be somewhat easier if u wanna call it that .or go a little wilder and do the kzn185 those came in land cruisers and some helux surfs .both are going to be a big job ..as far as the transmissions the diesel 2.4t ln130 might have the same transmissions as there gas motors .cause it was a decent revving diesel motor

Strolled thru some catalogs at work and there not much of a market for those models they were loved over seas tho
