looking into buying a pre-75 hilux (since here in california if the car is older than 75 I can do whatever I want to the car) anyways..if im going to do a 22r swap, just bolt the engine in and go? is there any information regarding a chevy 350 swap? I've only seen one on youtube but not much info on it. thanks.
Talk to burnzya he's got a pretty sweet build and can fab anything. Here's the link to his pre 75 build... http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/build-up-project-threads-19/luxus-2300/
I'm in the middle of a 22r and 5 speed swap in a 74. For being a Toyota to Toyota it's a PITA, but many probs can be avoided if the original trans is used behind the 22r. It's a series of problem solving but not terrible if one has decent mechanical skills.
there are motor mount kits to bolt on the chevy motor to your crossmember mounts, any clearance issues will be on your end after that, i know that the tranny tunnel is too small, plus you must refab the tranny mount, exhaust system, driveline, ebrake levers, cooling system, not a too hard of a job if you are a true handyman, definitely gonna take some time into though
Mines for sale in the for sale section. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/vehicles-27/1973-hilux-22r-w58-8-3-07-swap-sale-14540/ buy it, 1200$ and CA smog free!
I think north west offload makes all u need for v8 swaps .but I've herd that 2wd trucks require a 1 body body lift to aid in oil pan clearance or trans tunnel clearance don't really recall wich one it was or if its totally necessary .
The engine bay is just so small. Maybe the 4.3 would be short enough? I'd be willing to bet that a w series trans w/ adapter would live based on how light the trucks are. A late 80s Camaro T5 holds up to fairly healthy 350s in lighter import swaps with street tires and takes a hydraulic clutch slave cyl. A GM to Toy driveshaft can be made from donors at a driveline shop.
