was talking to a buddy about the site and this came into the conversation....

yea, 05+ guys will not be drawn over there.... i also agree.... the toyota "mini" stopped in 04. they lost that mini feeling.... (........................ just about broke into a Top Gun music scene right there )

differences between the hilux's and the new taco's......

new taco's - LCD backup screen in your rearview mirror.

hilux- you can see your new LCD big screen in the back of your truck through the rear view mirror.

    new taco's - "drive-by-wire" technology

hilux - you can tie a wire to the throttle linkage if the cable breaks.

new taco's - frame rust issues........

hilux - rust never stopped anyone from driving a hilux.

    new taco's - 6 speed tranny

hilux - 1 or 2 less gears, 6 less problems.

    new taco's - 100,000 mile warranty coverage

hilux - ****! my 22R just reached 300,000 miles, time for a valve adjustment check.

new taco's - smooth, comfortable, car like ride

hilux's - if i wanted a car like ride i would have bought a corolla.

    new taco's - 6500lb towing capacity.........

hilux - have you found the limit yet?

new taco's - just bought one for 28,900 on a 60 mo. loan plan.

hilux - i just found $0.83 cents in the ash tray, a quarter under each floor mat, and 3 dimes under the bench seat. sweet! im goin to jack in the box to get me 2 tacos!!!

Pretty funny post. Some of it is somewhat true.

However, I have both generations of Tacoma - an 03 and an 07 (and hopefully soon and old truck to restore/fix-up), and I just don't understand why some people are so incredibly negative about the new Tacomas. Sure, they're a little larger. But it's still a Toyota truck. It still rides like a truck. And it will still be around after a nuclear blast like all Toyota trucks.

I sure wish people would open their minds about the new generation trucks. I mean, what did people say when the 95.5 Tacomas came out? What did people say when the 89 pickups came out? I bet they said the same kind of things: "It's too nice." "It's too big." "It's not as good"

The point is: people need to get used to change. Nothing stays the same forever. There's no doubt we will all always cherish the old school trucks. But I think its suffice to say that Toyota (to this very day) is still making excellent trucks. :)

    Ok, </soapbox>. :D

    forgot a couple Alex....

new Taco = level seat that sits you up high.

hilux= sunk down into that "comfortable" position you've enjoyed for the last 20 years while the seat spring scratches your butt for you.

new taco= broke 3 plastic connectors while checking the oil by accidentally leaning on them

hilux= haven't looked under the hood in the last 3 years and don't really want to know what might be living under there.

    nice one Beefed!!

oh, and its called a "butt groove"

guess i shold include the other part of my conversation i talked about.....

im not really as closed minded as one might think by my comments and low jab comparisons....... i just thought they were funny comparisons.

you 05+ guys should not take offense...... its a hazing ritual i guess since they are the "newbies" of the toyota truck scene and our old hilux's are like the senior or veteran's of the community. we're stuck in our old ways/designs and we are proven :waytogo:

the only problem i have with the new ones are that they're so big, i love mini trucks, i want them to be tiny lol. i had an 02 and while i loved it, i always had my heart set on the pre-taco i have now. they just look better to me.

Yeah the uniqueness is part of what makes it fun, plus theres nothing like the bounces, squeeks, and smells of an old hilux, or any other old "mini" for that matter.

I've got a 05 xrunner and yeah its just not the same. I love my truck but for different reasons. I still miss my others as well. Like the 98 turbo i had, the 89 v6 ext cab, the 86 reg cab auto, the 84 ext cab manual, the 75, but it will be better as soon as I get to work on my project truck 74 :headbang:
