alright, my truck runs only on the battery, it's a 22R in the trailblazer 4x4.. i have a new alternator, new external regulator, new-ish(definetly good) red top battery, new ground cable, i checked continuity of wires and didn't have any resistance to not charge it.. is there another piece of the charging system i am overlooking? i charge my battery like filling a gas tank, watch my voltmeter of when to charge it back up, and i know it's hell on my battery, so what's next? just hard to get the time to mess with the truck because my wife hates this one, so any help to get it running with as little time out there as possible would be appreciated, thanks - Ben

I've always been told a bad battery destroys the alternator,so I'd test that !

I would start right from the sourse of the problem 1 - Battery, new or not, have it tested to insure its state of mind. 2 - Connections, good - clean - tight ( bad grounds kill alote of charging sytems as well as electrical systems. 3 - alternator & components - TEST, new is not always functional. Test components in and out of their place in the engine bay to be 100% sure of its state. 4 - Simple test - While engine is running, disconnect your Negative battery cable and see if the engine dies, if it does, suspect bad alternator or connections accordingly. 5 - Even thou youve checked, replaced, cleaned, tightened or inspected it, do it again, from the source, follow the path or flow of electricity like following a map and itll lead you right to your problem. Ive used this method time and time again and its ALWAYS the little thing I overlook the first time. . . Please keep us posted and let us know if you need more help . . .

tested and true battery, it had another one in with the issue before, haven't bench tested the alternator, but i did with the voltmeter as per instructions in chilton with engine running, tightened and replaced terminals, pull the cable when engine is running and it dies instantly, all connections i messed with i put that anti- corrosion spooge on it and cleaned prior, i haven't gotten out there yet, it's cold and raining, i will be messing with my other 80 something pickup this weekend and will look over some of the other details then, just a follow up of what else i had done with it last time i messed with it.. i charged it up tonight, will probably drive it tomorrow. juice or not :D

So the alt is just not charging at all?? Put a voltmeter across the battery with the truck running. Make sure the battery is fully charged first too. The reading if the alt is working will be a little more than 14V. If its not charging the reading will be 12.6V or less. If its not charging check the Altenator fuse. If its good id say the Alt is a defective one. Go back to where you bought it and they should swap it for another one free of charge. If that still wont get her going just holla!
