looking to convert mine over to the tach cluster.

also anyone know what exactly has to be done in order for the tach to work? i know you have to switch the oil sensor over to gauged one, but what about the tach?

Your right, the oil sender has to be changed to the gauge type, the tach has to be wired to the coil/igniter under the hood, normally there is a single unused black wire plug that is on the coil assembly for tach hookup.
Also for what its worth I have done several of those swaps over the years and all differed, did an 81 truck, just plug and go, everything was already wired, did an 86 4 runner, same thing, all prewired so just plug and go after swapping the sender, did an 85 truck and everything was prewired except the tach wire, had to run a new wire, and did an 83 truck recently that the complete dash harness to the cluster had to be repinned, a real job to say the least with no schematic, plus a new wire to the coil had to be added.
Hopefully yours will just plug and go.

buddy of mine at a toyota mini truck salvage yard had one in good shape.

i actually bought 2 since he said he does not move them very much anymore. i bought one off a v6 4runner with an auto, and i bought a 4cyl. pickup one. ill post my instructional in the "How To" section on the SR5 tach write up area.
