How well would 4wd headers fit on a 2wd truck?? Asking because I will be doing a "SAS" on my truck latter on but i wanna buy headers for it now. Don't wanna buy 2wd ones now and have to buy 4wd headers afterwards. Sorry if I sound confusing.
Either will work just fine later and a 4x may work for you now depending on how you run the exhaust. The 2x stuff is meant to clear the outside of the torsion bar while 4x just goes on back. I have used them both universally on either way.
Thanks!!! Loving the fast service around here! Does the 4wd header hang lower? cause my truck is pretty darn low.
Got a few friends who,did 2wd. To SAS they sed never again to much bull**** with trans swap hole cutting etc. lol. leave her dropped n get a 4x so u have 2 toys! Ill be doing a t100 sas wen I,have the time! Good luck hayn
2wd to 4wd conversion is 100% easier than putting a solid axle under a factory 4wd ifs truck. About 1/4 the stuff to cut off the frame, the frame is shaped the same on a 2wd as a factory 4wd while the factory 4wd ifs frame is flat above the axle so you have to lift it higher to clear. The stock t case crossmember always gets cut off anyway so it's easier to just bypass it and go straight to aftermarket. I was in the 4wd world for the last 20 years, this lowered truck thing is new to me but most of the tech crosses over.
Well its either that or bring my truck back up a little to make it through dirt roads with out killing the underside of my truck and bashing my frame when I bottom out.lol.
Yeah thats what I've been told. Aslo I read somewhere that the 2wd frames are nearly identical to the 84-85 4x frames and ifs frames are different.. Edit^sorry didnt read your post good enough.lol
Also how tight of a fit would a 2wd header be when i do the SAS? Since it doesnt hang as low it should be close the the 4x trans and cross member right?
The 2x and factory 4x frame is identical since the torsion bars go to the lower arms rather than over the frame to the uppers like the ifs 4x. The header won't hang down THAT low but it is lower than one meant for a 2x. My last rig went from this. To this. Then this Then this happened. It's a toyota so we pushed it over and drove it back out after 2 3/4 rolls down the mountain. So I hammered the sheetmetal out, swapped out the yota axles for 1 ton's and sold the 42's for 44's. Got the bigger better stronger stupidity disease. Started a body swap and tossed the fresh 22re in my wifes truck, sold the yota 5 speed and dual ultimate marlin cases in favor of a 1uz, Jeep aw4/231 to an atlasII. And it never wheeled again. It sat for two years till I finally parted it out and scrapped the remainder a few months ago. There's the last truck in a nutshell. Thrilling I know.
Thanks think I'll invest in LC street 4wd header kit! And damn thats a hella big transformation your truck went through. Nice work btw.
If you are buying new get the 2x header. It will keep the exhaust from hanging under it when it's a 4x later. Plus the 2x will clear the torsion bar with no issue UNlike the 4x counterpart. Thanks the truck was fun. I just picked up an fj80 front axle and an old eaton ho52 rear to use on the next truck. I won't go bigger than 35's on it though so I can keep the stupidity to a minimum.
Ok I,have no personal experience with 2wd to 4wd. But thats from guys I know of. cool truck. In hawaii we do sand and mud. No much rock crawlin unless its an event. chevy axles ftw. Good luck broskie
So the 2x header would be better now abviosly and for when its 4wd too?? And itll fit properly when 4wd??
From my experience the 4x sat way low on the 2x (Think someone did say this already). And your lower. I had other fit issues too but think it was cause I moved my motor back in the frame.I Have done a number of sases on both frames and both have pluses and minuses. See if you can try a buddy's 4x header for fittment first, or plan to just jump into both header and sas. Good luck man!
