hi guys i am new to the forum however ive been reading it for about a year now since i got my 78 yota. currently i have a 4spd trans and im wanting to swap to a 5spd. i want to keep my stock gear ratios or at least keep them close because i like the power it makes off the line. my id plate under the hood says i have a l43 with a g083. does anyone know the ratios of the 2wd l43 4spd trans and also is the g083 an 8 inch with 4.11s? i thought those were only available on the 4x4? any knowledge would be great on this topic

The gears set would be 411s. In my race cars I've never messed with the trans to change gears just remove the pumpkin and put 391 freeway gears when it's on the street and 411s when I'm at the track...

    And if it's a G082 it is 411 gears.

Well with the new trans the only thing that will change is you will have a 5th gear. Most of the 4 and 5 speed trans have the same or very close gear ratio's in 1-4 but the 5 speed has the overdrive.

Found this on another forum... Hope this helps. :waytogo: "It will start with a G then have 3 #'s after it if it is G292 then you have 4.10's;* G082 4.11's; and G282 4.30's"

well i know that the l43 is rumored to have a 3.9 first gear while a w50 has a 3.2 first gear. not sure of what difference that will make?
