First off let me introduce myself as this is my first thread in here. Im ITMONEY and I just recently purchased a 1990 Single Cab Toyota with a 22RE and 4 Speed manual trans. The truck is in good shape and the motor ran strong when I test drove it. Just from trolling around on here I know that yall like pictures so ill get them up asap.

My real question is, after I test drove the truck and decided to get it, I drove it about 60 miles back home. It ran fine for the first 45-50 miles....when exited the interstate and downshifted into 2nd it wanted to bog down on me and kinda shutter. I thought at first that I had just dumped it in second going to slow(should have hit 1st) but when I got up to the next red light and stopped it only wanted to idle at about 500-700 rpms and the truck kinda shook. I drove it to work this morning and its doing the same thing....it wants to bog down when you shift from 1st to 2nd and it kinda shutters every once in a while.????????

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just put a new battery in it and the cables/connections are good. I also checked the vaccum lines, that was my first thought when this all started happening but everything looks good.

Make sure the flap if the maf is moving freely, I've seen vehicles that have sat for a long time have the flap stick on the drive home. Congrats on the new truck and welcome to the site!

EDIT: damn phone changing words on me..seriously they call these things SMART phones wtf lol

@dillinja666-Thanks for the welcome and yea I agree....sometimes these phones aren't so **** smart.

Ill definitely check the MAF and the intake hose....im gonna be doing the intake/battery swap in the next few days so that should give me the time to check everything.

Ok so heres an update.....I looked at my MAF and it looks and works perfect. I checked all the vac hoses and they are also good. Im still stumped on why this thing is lacking power so bad. I idled it up a little bit and now im smelling fumes that I didnt before? Im going to do the intake/battery swap and get a new muffler this weekend. Im hoping that helps but I still think there is something else going on. Any ideas???

Thanks for chiming in.....im going to check the timing this weekend. The distributor was just replaced but I didnt even think about the fuel filter. Im sending my injectors off next week to be cleaned so im sure that will help. Ill also make sure to check the o2 sensors as well...I didnt even consider them.
