Hey everyone so I'm trying to build my motor is pretty much stock aside from being desomgged nd 12 pound lc flywheel six puckclutch nd w58 trans rite now 3.07 gears I kno I kno its a really low ratio don't help much bt it still runs good. So reason I'm trying to hot rod the 22r is this punk in a civic hatch with a Frankenstein b18block with gsr head I'm guessing he's making bout 160-170hp nd always talk crap so the other day I raced him he beat me by two car lenghts!! Which is not bad knowing my truck only has 77horsepower lol bt I wana beat him or at least side by side wat u guys recommend?? I'm on a budget! Oh I also picked up a one ton 4.30 gear ratio which mite help if i can hook up at the start lol even with 3.07 gears stills burns out in 1-2 nd chirps 3rd gears lol pleaz help!!!!
Oh yea its a carbed. 22r nd pleazz don't say swap engine or 22rs is mot a high reving motor I wana show people wat a 22r can do aside from being able to run forever lol
Well if you wanna use the 22r . Head work is a start ported for sure a decent cam and some retainers and springs is also needed .side draft carbs would really help with that also as well as header and exhaust . Depends on how much you wanna spend to chase down a swapped civic there a several angles of approach here . If u just wanna beat him a few times buy a nitrous kit!! But I don't recommend that
I wanna stay off nitrous bt it would be fun lol yea I've tohught bout engnbldr rv head nd 270 camwoth an obx header nd probably a weber 38 anyone have dat setup how do u like it??
i am proud to say i took a scion tc saturday first and second gear felt great convinced my nissan friend to want a toyota lol but my truck engine wise is completly stock all i have is a brandnew head water pump oil pun and headgasket and a 40 series exhaust but i want headers i know those will make a diffrence
Rv cam will give you a lot more top end as well as a port and polish. Accel super sport coil helps a bit. Weber carb, valve adjustment or some top end work (valve springs, valve lapping). Electric fan will free up some power. That's a few simple things. A base model conversion can remove some accessory drag (remove power steering, A/C, smog pump.)
How are you liking that flywheel? I was thinking of picking one up. I have the same trans and rear end as you but am running a 205/40/17 tire.
My setup for auto cross and short road track events I use a engnbuilder rv head that I had ported and polished and shaved fitted with 550 springs and a crower stage 2 cam personally I prefer LC cams or cower if u want to make power off a cam i use a weber 34 and a 4 to 1 header msd 6al . electric fan kit my bottom end has been rebuilt as well bored a tad and have the older version parodise racing rods had the machinist at work shave the crank as well 7k screamer on the street . No ac/ps no emissions cost around 2000 dollars for all that
Thanks everyone well I loe my 12 pound flywheel nd six puck it just gets a lil geting used to I feel like geting a 9pound now. Nd yea I've skunked scions even tthe 328 bmws idk how bt I've done it dakotaa, a76 camaro with 350 block, 86 elcamino hondas the list goes on lol its not a fast ride bt getsthe job done!! Bt yea ima try a diffrent canm nd rebuilding the block nd rebuilding the head with engnbldr 1mm osvalves nd geting a port nd polish for now on a budget anyone know a gud machine shop that can do the job around here?
Cool glad you like that flywheel. Im doing a 20/22r hybrid with dual 40mm side drafts, the 37.5/45.5 mm valves, .040 bore on the lower end lazer block, and custom header since they dont make one that will fit in my 73. I havn't decided on my cam/spring setup yet, but I have a while to decide on that.
I'm running a hybrid with a single 45dcoe side draft, mild port work, decent trd cam and a Lce 1 5/8" header designed for a later model 4x. It runs pretty well but I desperately need an adjustable c gear to compensate for the head and block being shaved. I'll be swapping new rockets and a much more aggressive cam later this summer unless I do an engine swap. To fit the Lce header I had to flip the steering box bolts around and dimple one tube but it fits. After looking at it I'm convinced the large tube header made for a celica would be perfect but this header came with an engine I bought so I'm using it. I wouldn't get to worked up over a custom header for the 73. I've had 5 different ones on my 78 and the big Lce one I'd the only one that didn't drop right in.
I think my 73 is narrower then the 78. I have coil springs up front as well and the 78 has torsions. That is the main issue, clearing the frame by the coil spring and the cross member for the coil springs. Why do you need an adjustable cam gear for the block being shaved? Are you just trying to do that for the cam timing for hp issues or are you having a timing issue with the head? I thought shaving down the head to fit should correct any issues in timing chain length. I should take a pic of my stock manifold and show ya how close to the frame it is. I really dont think an aftermarket one will fit. I might be trading my 2jz build for a TON of work on the 73 since I can't find a buyer...so the custom header might not sting so much
78 was the last year for coils. 79 was the body and suspension redesign. I've had a thorley tri Y, pacesetter, shorty hedman, hooker and the Lce on it and they all fit. My cam timing is off due to the block being decked and the head shaved. The distance from the cam to crank is shorter so the so the tensioner pulls the slack and the cam is advanced. It needs to be retarded for upper rpm horsepower.
Wow must have been some crazy block deck / head shave. Hmmm thanks for the info on headers...that's a big help!
