Thank you very much for the info Twin, that really helps out. The trans you say is not the "right" one Id figure to be the better cause the way it looks linked up. Never took notice of how much it extends at the end, thanks! Very good info and will do as you mentioned. I wanted to get a motor with good compression so the one I was looking at had great compression but was a front sump. Ill take your word and wait for one with a rear as it would save money and the hassle. I did check out the link Matt said to check and found some good info there as well, thanks Matt. So Im still shopping around for a good motor and will keep you all updated as soon as I find a good one. Thanks everyone, mahalo.
No problem man. Might get to meet up sometime and see the truck as I am in the navy and trying to get stationed in hawaii.
This is a great thread. Good info. I was also wanting a 1jz in my 82 but might be leaning towards a 1uz. Keep this thread updated OP. I Need to know more info.
@Matt, Bro Id love to have it ready and for you to come and see it in action would be killas! (Killer) More then welcome to see it as it would be in progress or (wishful thinking) complete. There are a few from oahu you could get aquainted with as well as I myself needs to do. @Speed, Thanks bro I will definately keep this updated as I get the goods rolling in. Currently Im shopping around and gathering whatever info/opinions givien. Matt pointed out a great build log, "Rajzswap Official build thread" This Im gonna use as my guide as well. As the parts come in Ill prolly start a build log and definately will keep updating. Thanks for the support and info eveyone, Mahalo.
No problem for the info man. Rodney also did a tech thread on the 8.8 rear end install. Here is the link for that as well. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/suspension-chassis-40/ford-8-8-install-5308/
Matt I ran thru your thread and your track day vids... and man do I wish I could give it a drive. And damn you scored BIG on that turbo dogg!!! I want to go 2j but the ones I want or figure to get is ones that cost around 6k+. That was my original plan but got more info and seen its pretty much the same with a 1j which is quite much cheaper. I have been looking for the rear end suggested as Im clueless of what others will work out so been lightly looking to the explorers rear end. Greatly appreciate the help guys. Right now I have a few projects coming up for my "audio" side that gotta address so this will be taking place soon after. Meantime Ill be looking out for that one purchase I think is best as far as the motor and trans go.
Checked out the link and man thats all great info, thanks to you and Rod this is all documented and broken into a language I can understand...pics lol. Great Great info, thanks again Matt!
No problem man! And so you know if you go for a 2jz auto they run much cheaper. then find a crashed MK3 supra (turbo) with the trans in it, 1jz bellhousing and your good to go.. Just saying that with that combo you will be ok.
^ thats what I did and it was about 1100 cheaper the buying it with the r154 and a f*ck ton cheaper then buying the v160
Well I didnt try to see but I think here is alot harder to come by with such parts being we are only an island. I would love to get a 2jz as that was the dream I first had. Just wondering, would a 2jz auto for around $2600. be a good to average purchase? I ask cause I see the ones with the getrag 6 speed manual (looks like the trans which may sit behind of me) for the going rate of high 5k and up. As I search ebay I just dont know which to go with. One place I inquired were suppose to make a compression test video but kept delaying so I ran out of faith with them...jdm world 2008 1jz r154 trans. Just asking, could someone take a look and see what I see and give an opinion of which would be a better buy? Looking to spend around 3k with/without ship so lets just say 3k for the product itself. Thanks guys, much appreciate it and glad to be a part of this community, right on!!!
I know you can get a 2jz auto for less then 3k. They are just not strong at all. So as a temporary deal it would work good for you. Being that you are on a island you could still find a good R154 for cheap if you look in the right place. Craigslist and ebay will be your best friend and even supraforum (they are hure dicks on there tho) It just takes time and you have to look at all the details cuz there is a shi* ton of them.
Bottom line with a JZ engine conversion.... have a MINIMUM of 10k to spend. These swaps are no where near cheap. Most these motors need to be fully gone through and theres always a upgrade you will do along the way. Fact, you are doing the swap for more power and will spend more knowing you can make a lot more power, i know I did, and most people that do the swap do exactly that. This is a involved project for the DIY guys that do it out of there garage. If you dont have the space, time, and gearhead knowledge but have cash money. there are companies that can do the complete swap really cheap as well. Most the engines ive seen bought have blown heads, high mileage, metal shavings in the oil pan, low compression, blown turbo seals, and down right just run to the ground. When you are ready to fork up the money let us know and can help you find a motor. ATTARCO of Sacramento,ca is a very very good place that ive had great luck with. Ive heard good things about VENUS-AUTO of Sacramento,Ca too but never used them before. Best of luck with your project man Rod
