We upgraded my wife's system in her 05' Toyota Matrix a couple of years ago, so luckily I held on to her stock CD player.

Now that I have a 90 pickup, thought I would give it a shot:

I started out with just an AM/FM radio.

Turns out that Matrix CD player plugged right into the stock pickup harness.

It's a double din unit, so I had the enlarge the opening with my dremel.

Used the brackets from the original radio and bolted right up. Everything lined up perfectly.

    Here is the end result:

    I see what you mean.

It was already pretty beat to begin with. Any ideas on what I can use to fill in the gaps?

i'm pretty shocked at the negative comments. lol

this site is full of threads of 2" drop blocks and loosened torsions with 50 people responding about how amazing the trucks look..

but you post something cool about adding a cd player that plug and plays and can be had cheap at the junkyard and it gets nit picked.

i think the radio install is sweet :waytogo:

Nice job. Good to know toyota doesn't change much when it comes to radios.
I might have an extra radio bezel if you want one.

"All?" Damn, you make it sound like there was 50 comments on here... I don't see how mine or the other ONE comment before your post was negative. I am pretty sure that we both just told him that its not aesthetically pleasing. Which is just some honest feedback which is why most of us post stuff on here in the first place. So just look at the logic in your comment before you go posting that people are being "negative."

lol i never used the word "all" in my post. the negative i seen was "tore the fuk up" and "looks like sh!t". i've been on this forum for a really long time now, and usually people word stuff a little better i guess. to me this wasn't a critique my install thread, it was a d.i.y. type thread showing that it can be done. either way i don't care. i've seen hundreds of things on here that i didn't like and i just kept it to myself.

now this is more of what i'm used to here on TM. :nana: :)

I really don't mind the comments, it actually has made me think about ways to improve the fitment of the cd unit.

    Here's my idea;

I'll enlarge the hole a little more then add spacers between the dash and the radio brackets for more of a flush look.

This truck is my beater, so I really didn't think so much about looks but more of function. But I plan on cleaning it up a bit and I'll update here when I have time.

I appreciate the offer but I'm pretty sure I can source one closer. I'm assuming you're in Canada?

I like the install. Cool Idea about merging the old and new and cool that it plugs in without moddifying. Just an idea: I bought my truck with an aftermarket Alpine stereo already installed. (single din) Instead of cutting up the stock trim to make the stereo fit and installing the included trim ring, the installer mounted the deck behind the panel. There is enough room for the face to click on and it really does look almost stock. It was a nice install and one that I wouldn't have thought of myself as I would have just hogged out the stock panel with a dremel and stuck the stereo through.
I realize that with it being a double din you will have to cut the panel, but could you cut it enough to leave the panel so it overlaps the stereo a little with the stereo mounted behind the panel instead of flush with it?
    Just a thought.
