I was going to lift my yota but dont have the money and i like a nice lowered mini truck. before i get replies like "why would you drop a 4x4" i live in an area that gets a bunch of snow in winter so i need it. now to the the lowering part. from what ive read 2wd yotas came factory with the leafs under the axle and 4x4's had the leafs over the axle could i just take the leafs off and put them back on under the axle? Im not looking to slam it just get it as low as a 4x4 can go
Yes but you would have to cut off and re-weld your spring perches under the axle..and you will probably have to relocate shock mounts..and the main thing i would worry aboutis driveline issues....but hey its possible!!
will fliping the axle casue any major problems. some one told me that if i lower it i might need the shorten the drive shafts dont know how true this is? if the drive line is goning to be a issue would it be possible to lower just taking out the over load leaf and getting a lowering leaf pack
Driveline issues depend..mosty if ur driveshaft is a slip yoke..u may be able to get away with 1-2" of lift or drop without lengthening or shortening...as far as flipping the axle im pretty sure things would be turning in opposite directions? And pulling leafs will only get you 1-2inches max...
when i said axle flip i meant change the axle from spring over to spring under like the 2wd models. no actual fliping is taking place so i thought every thing should work scince im just moving the leafs under the axle tube. other than i need to get new u bolts and perches
Yes if u spring under ur truck it will drop like 4 inches...youll mostlikely have to get ur driveshaft shortend
Honestly, after owning a few 4x4 Toyotas, I think the biggest hurdle won't be the rear, it'd be the front suspension. You can only go so far before you'll be replacing CV boots and joints on a regular basis. That is unless you have lockouts and can stop those joints from turning all the time. The front suspension on the 4x4's are built hanging further from the frame to get lift....
is the front solid axle or ifs?, i think if you lower ethier you could have tyre clearance issues form your front tyres, if it is live axle you may have sump issues from hitting the top of the diff. just my 2c
its an ifs front end. yeah i figured i would have trouble with the front end because i droped the front 2" already and the cv's are at 0* strait from the diff to the wheel so if thats as low as i can go in the front im just gonna drop the back till it's level
