I'm getting pretty impatient trying to find a set of reg cab sR5 doors/door panels with power options. So I'm thinking of piecing together a power window set up. Just need some clarification..So I can use 4runner PW regulators and wiring should be the same correct? I was also thinking of getting the 4runner armrests with switches, but modifying them because I don't need the PL,PM or extra window switches..I was thinking of using some switches from Electric life more specifically these...plus they are illuminated! So just wanted to make sure my plan will work, I think its probably the cheapest route to vs buying the kit for electric life
Nice kit. I would like to have power too. Is there any write ups any where on this? i like the universal kit so i can place the switches where i want. I was thinking i just need the power units out of any toyota pickup 89-94 and these switches.
Thats what I was thinking I found this..an early taco but its pretty much the same Toyota Tacoma power window installation
I have the power windows , mirrors & locks( took the locks out),on my 88 Toy. From a 88 4 Runner, I used the stock window /lock relay from the 4-runner ( it has timers in it),but you wont did it.If you go this route ,make sure you get the female plug from the doner truck. I also used the main fuse box ,as it has power window & power lock circuit breakers, which you should use instead of a fuses. You can use after market circuit breakers. I read that the Electric Life units are the best after market ones out there! Good luck with this mod, it is worth having!
I've read your posts about the PW convrsion you did...one thing I need to do is relocate my shaved door solenoids, i used to have Mr Gasket 15lb ones that worked great for many years, when they went out i replaced them with some cheap ebay ones, they SUCKED! So i bought some Autoloc 35lb and now I cant roll my window all the way down I have about an inch of window showing...where are your solenoids mounted? why size lb wise are you running? I'm not sure where to relocate them to, I'll probably need to do a pulley set up or find some 15lb solenoids that are worth a damn
Have any power window parts yet? I'm in the middle of some serious garage cleaning and am pretty sure i have 90%+ of a power window kit.
Not trying to thread-jack or anything, but could someone post a link to the posts Gary put up concerning the PW conversion? I searched and have gone through all twenty pages of posts his name brings up and didn't see the first how-to on how he did his. I have the regulator and motors from a 4Runner, so right now I just need to know what else is needed. Also, is it possible to use any other switches from any other vehicles, say for instance, like out of a Cadillac or Lincoln. I see the switches you posted but I'm kinda partial to chrome and billet but not ready to shell out $100+ for 2 little buttons.
I just read your doing the power window install. I recently had a problem with the widows just stopping, after trouble shooting for a week I found bad connectors @ the door control relay. It has timers in it for the windows & locks. I bye-passed it on the power window connectors only, so now power from the Ign. fuse that fed one side of the relay, goes straight to the master switch @ the drivers door & to the passenger assist switch. Problem solved! If you get the window regulators,& some door switches ,just run power from any fuse that is hot with ign. on only & you should be good!
So we don't need the PW control box? All we need are the regulators and some switches? Is this also true for the door locks? Do we need the door control at all? I'm almost set-up to start installing everything but I don't want to get going unless I have all I need. Like I said, I have the regulators and motors,as well as, the wiring harnesses from the doors, and the door control box. I'm just wondering if I still have to go back and get the window control box and the fuse block.
