Its just a case of buying the flanges from an auto parts store or muffler shop. Then you cut the piece off you want to change and weld the flanges onto the exhaust. Then weld corresponding flanges onto both the straight pipe and the cat. Then when you want to switch them, you just unblot the cat and bolt in the pipe. I did it with a muffler on a car I had once. Nice, quiet, stock sound when I wanted it and a coupe bolts later it was sporting a loud straight pipe. Plus, on mufflers at least, it makes playing with different mufflers really easy as all you have to do is weld a flange onto the new muffler and bolt it on. If you don't like it, its just a couple bolts to put it back to how it was.

 

hmmmm definitely sounds like the go to me! my mate has a bit of welding expertise, so i might use his help to first get rid of either the cat or muffler.

If It's not a race car it's always good to have a muffler. Your best bet is to either remove the cat or actually get a "high flow" cat. You can get generic high flows that can be bolted/welded on.

Plus buy a new muffler. I've always been a fan of Flowmaster 40 series. But I've also only used that on a V8.

 

so i go my car back yesterday, new muffler is welded on and is sounding pretty nice!

its a 2" high flow muffler, gives it a far deeper, throatier tone and allround sounds so much better.
has given me a little bit more power too, so im pretty stoked!

Yea man sounds good. So is all you did was the muffler?

With just a muffler it shouldnt not effect your emissions. Also if the sound police are around just keep it low RPMs and you should not have an issue with them.

As much as I am not a flowmaster fan, Ive heard a few on Yotas and they sound decent. Check youtube theres tons of videos to get ideas. I ran just converter for a while, Didnt sound as bad as I thought. Was loud but with bigger pipe and a tip it mellowed out pretty good.

Yours sounds good, Bigger pipe and a tip could really change the sound though...

2.25" exhaust for optimum flow and performance, your choice if you want high flow cat or not, the stock cat should be fine.

 

I ran long tube headers>2.5">magnaflow off brand. No emissions laws here so I didn't need a cat. I noticed a nice little step up in pep and the sound wasn't too obnoxious.
