I have a 87 Toyota pickup that sat for a few years before I began to work on it. I had a bad creeking noise when I would drive it especially when going in and out of driveways, since then I have replace the shocks and noticed that the creeking noise is deminished but is still somewhat there ... Any ideas on what noise this could be? Also i have a werid tension sounding noise from the passanger side that pops everyonce and a while mostly when the wheels are turned to the right fully and left fully... any clues??? FYI my 87 is a base line truck no A/C and no power steering
you should check the parts in your steering link but I can tell you where your creaking is coming from when the wheel is turned, Our trucks have steering stops that have rubber/plastic caps on them down by the control arms, when those wear out it makes a horrible noise when the metal rubs on the stop plate, A little grease in the area every oil change should quiet it down
thanks for the reply. I had forgot I posted this thread, I saw the plastic caps that you spoke of and I did put grease on it and it helps quiet the noise down, but I still get a creeky noise I'm thinking the shocks i have may be blown and I'm hearing the torsin bars moving?
it could be the 2 bolts holding your steering components to the frame. I was having a problem with what I would say steering/ creaking when I was going over speed bumps, and also when I would do extreme turns. when I was putting the secondary linkage on my weber the other day I saw that the two bolts had almost COMPLETELY come out. so yah... double check that. I doubt its the shocks if you already replaced them. no more creaking.
