I recently picked up a 93 Toyota, 2wd. Did a alternator test (disconnected the negative terminal w/ car running) and the truck died out on me. I noticed the belt on the alternator has more slack than i've usually seen, can this be the reason the alt not properly charging the battery? Also, my startups are kind of hesitant, but eventually turns over....could that be cuz of the loose belt also? hope to get some input, thanks in advance
Yea sounds like alternator is not charging your battery due to the loose belt slipping on the pulley.
not all cars will run with the battery disconnected.however the ones that will, you are supposed to take the positive cable off the battery. if you remove the negative, you take away all the grounds in the system electrical system and the nothing works. try checking the alt voltage and see what its putting out. its also very doubtful that the belt being loose will cause it to start slowly.
thanks ^ i took it to autozone to get the alt checked out, it was cranking out normal (13.98)....so i just replaced the battery. checked under the truck and looks like im getting a leak from the rear main seal....cant get under it to work on til next week so im kinda of worried out about blowing my transmission, any physical signs that the tranny is goin besides the leak?
