hey guys, I found a pick up with a 22r engine.. only major issue i see is the chassis on the passenger side. the owner of the truck started it up and engine sound fine. I've been looking for an engine to change my v6. gas prices going up and salary is still not changing...lol....here is my question, btw I'm what you call a brochanic not a mechanic, if i was to buy this truck what do i need to do or purchase? i mean i wanna buy it because of the engine but don't want to take it only to find out later that there is a major issue on the engine that i don't know about...seller needs the money, which i believe is my advantage, but i don't know the condition of the engine that well..i only heard it start with a few revs.. funny thing about this is wife is giving me two days to make my decision and this place is the first thing i thought of to ask for help...any advice will be appreciated.

First of all, pull the dipstick and check the oil. Oil that is mixed with coolant means a blown out head gasket. That alone is an 8 hour job beside getting the head resurfaced. That would be the major thing to check. Unless the motor was torn down, then you can check other things. You can also observe if there's blue or white smoke out of the tail pipe.

What 1982rn34 said, check for smoke, listen for knocks that don't belong, check for coolant mixed with oil.

As far as the swap goes, I haven't looked into this swap but it seems like it should be one of the easier ones to do? Should just need ecu, wiring harness, and motor? The trans should bolt right up I believe? Someone else will pipe in and give you a more exact answer.

thanks guys. when the guy started it up he used some kind of spray to start the engine. the truck had no gas so what he did was: instructed me to turn on the ignition while he was at the engine area..all i know is the guy started spraying, i turned the key and it started...how he did it, NO idea..so no signs of smoke and heard no knocking sounds. again guys thanks for the advice.

Probably spraying starter fluid in the intake.
