I have been a devoted Toyota owner since I was 16 (22 years ago). My first car was a 1978 Celica, second car was 1988 pickup, third was 87 Celica, and so on. I currently drive a 2007 Camry and 2006 Sienna. A friend gave me a 1987 Toyota SR5 truck that I LOVED! Then, my father-in-law came, saw it and said he wanted to "borrow" it because his 81 truck died and he needed it for his landscaping business. Since the truck was my weekend truck, I decided to "loan" it to him. That was more than a year ago and now, he won't give it back. A picture of the truck is attached. I want to buy another yota and came upon a sweet, all original 1972 Hilux for $1,500. I've searched everywhere online, but can't seem to find the values of these vintage trucks. Can someone point me to a resource for their prices? Thanks in advance. Ok, I will go back to lurking now.
First of all, Welcome to the site! I'm in the South Bay in the 408. Your '87 SR5 looks really nice. There is really no way to value a 1972 Hilux. I see them widely priced on the internet. Bottom line, I guess it all depends on what are you willing to pay for it. My friend in Long Beach is selling his 1977 Toyota Celica GT liftback for $16,000 (all original, Orange, 5-speed, louvers). It hasn't sold yet. Pull up and chair and enjoy the site!!! Rick
Welcome! yea theres not really a price. but if its in great condition, and engine and trans etc. are in great shape then that sounds like a good deal, they last forever, so its a pretty good investment haha.
Welcome to the site, you'll find a-lot of great info and people here. Finding an general price for one is going to be tough, lot of factors involved, what kind of shape is it in, how much does the owner want for it, ect.... I'm not too far ahead of you, been a devoted Toyota fan for 25 years 1987, haved owned/own 5 trucks, 2 cars and a 4 runner, current ones are 82 truck (project) 03 4runner wifes d/d and 05 corrola my d/d my 82 is my current project and my last. My love is the 82/83 body style, like my very first truck, very special to me, I even stare at the junk ones that drive by and feel sorry for them
Welcome! starts? Runs? Rust? Maintenance? Accidents? Based on these questions I'd ask myself "what kind of $ am I willigng to put into it?" Do you have plans for the truck, mods or restoration? Or do you just want something you can drive? Questions like this play more of a factor for a consideration like this as you will find toyota trucks $ range all over the map. Although I personally would consider that purchase, if I had to choose between that and the $400 deal I found for my 86 R Cab, a fair amount of rust, cracked radiator, balding tires...I'd still have to choose my R Cab. In 2 years I've scouted out some rims w tires for $100 and recently had to change out my fuel pump about $100. So for $600 plus gas plus a gallon of water about every 2-3 weeks the truck has and continues to serve me well. Easier to deal with as I drive the beast only about 3-4 times a week for work and hockey....good luck but if I were you I'd just get my truck back. It is YOUR truck after all.
I totally agree with JojoAW11. Just get your truck back and be done with it. Do you want us to talk to your father-in-law? j/k
