Which will be more bang for my buck? I found a company near me that parts out these trucks and they will sell me everything I need for an efi conversion for $400. Through weber direct website I can get a 32/36 carb for $250. I am looking for better gas mileage and a little more power wich overall would be best for me?
i haven't personally owned a truck with a weber but i'm gunna say efi. i would let my 88 set for almost a year at a time and go out and it would fire up within 2 seconds of cranking. also with a stock setup local auto stores will have parts to repair it.
I like EFI. Regardless of everyone talking about lack of power and how complicated it is etc. I've never had any problems with EFI and i see somewhat more reliability & less hiccups with it. I hear the crap daily about running carbs & it'd smoke efi any day of the week blah blah. But when people come back down to earth and wake up, it's a 2366cc motor. Why are you going to put a few thousand dollars into a 22r and act like it's a race car? Go all the way and do a engine swap if your looking for power. These aren't race engines by any means. I got a few buddys that all live & die by oversized carbs/sidedrafts but really they're messing with their stuff constantly to keep it running.
I'd say stick with whatever system you already have, if your have a 22r then go with the 32/36. Webers are fairly easy to maintain. Just my opinion..
What about the ease of the swap to efi? If you have everything is it simple and straightforward or is it difficult?
If everting is all wired in already all you have to worry about is the internal fuel pump and that is not fun.
My vote is for the Webber. Its easier to mainta.in and cheaper. Have you ever had to buy an efi fuel pump computer box or mas airflow sensor. that shwt gets expensive
The guy Im getting it form is selling kits (off old trucks he parts out) for $400. It includes the fule tank and pump, efi mainfold with injectors, computer, distributer, igniter, and the entire air cleaner assembly. I currently get 18 mpg on my truck. It is a 4x4 that is stock, what kind of gas mileage can I get with both options aproximatly. I would like my average to be over 20 as I do alot of driving. And as to power I just need a little more so it can handle highway speeds much better. Will removing the egr also help with mileage?
Can't beat EFI if you're looking to save on gas. But, going N/A is the way to go for quick and cheaper power! EFI costs much more to upgrade for more power. FYI Hope this helps.
Yeah I think Im leaning toward the weber know. It seems like efi would be best but i dont think it will be near as simple as I thought. Can anyone link a vacuum line diagram for the weber?
Dont think yuu need a diagram, webers have very little vaccume lines. Thats one of the reasons people chose it over the stock carb.
It is a good carb, but it doesn't get good gas mileage. the 32/36 is more economical for a daily driver.
I just decided to go with efi. I got myself an 86 4runner that has efi and a/c and Im just gonna use it for parts.
