I want to put power steering on my 94 22RE Yota. Can anyone tell me what all is needed? I am going tomorrow to buy some p/s parts and can get everything thats there. I'm just wondering if anybody has done this and what all I should get. Also, I have a/c so I'm wondering if the crank pulley is different.

I just put power steering in my truck, u need:
    Ps gear box
    Idler arm
    Resevoir
    Ps pump
    Steering rod (intermediate shaft)
    All the line sets

As far as crank pulley im sure its the same, not 100% cuz im using the 1jz ps pump n serp belt

It's a fairly easy swap. You will need the steering box, pressure and return lines, the cooler loop, pump and bracket, reservoir, and the crank pulley add on. I don't know if a truck with A/C already has this, but for non A/C trucks there is just a small pulley that bolts onto the main crankshaft pulley with 4 10mm bolts.

Also on the pump there is an aluminum idle up valve that hooks to an aduster that is in the intake of oem equipped power steering trucks. I chose not to bother with that and just capped off the vacuum ports on the idle up valve. I have my idle set at 600rpm and can turn the wheels lock to lock on pavement with 235mm wide tires without it stumbling at all, so on a 2wd I dont think the idle up valve is really all that necessary

Edit: Just read JCtoy's post. I personally did not need the steering intermediate shaft - I was able to loosen the joints under the dash and slide everything together to fit the power box. I also have tilt though, so that may be the difference - better pick up the intermediate shaft just in case

I actually just did a ps install in my truck yesterday. Its super simple if u goteverythin only prob I ran in to was the top 17mm bolt on the top o the ps Box i had to bore out the hole. and as for the shaft I did what twin turbo taco said just loosen the 12 or under the dash and loosen the oneby the box and slide toot to the length I needed. Took about 1hr30min to do it.

I just bought all the parts to add ps to my truck. Hopefully that will happen this weekend. There is a good picture thread on one of the other yota forums. If I can find it I'll post a link.

    Yeah I'll take some pics.

I got the complete assembly from a parts truck on craigslist. I gave $100 for everything.

Steering box needs to be 89-95 I believe. I pulled a power box off of an 85 and it would not fit, mounting holes were way off.

Everything else can be removed from almost anything with a 22r and power steering. My current pump/bracket/pulley are all from a 1983 Celica, my lines/reservoir/cooler are from a 91 22re 4Runner, and my box is from a 94 2wd 22RE pickup.

Just be careful if its a 2wd v6 steering box, some models might be the same as the 22RE, but every 2wd v6 box that I have seen also had rear ABS and a different steering box. You can tell the difference easily as the ABS steering box will have 2 wires going to it. Stay away from that box.

I was told the only difference is the pitman arm which you can reuse off your 2wd.

I'm pretty sure the 2wd and 4x4 boxes are different.
