hey everybody names Franklin Im from dayton ohio im 17 and i just bought my first toyota today for 1500$ its a 85 xtra cab with 124xxx. Ive done a little research on the forum about these trucks before i decided to buy this one. I had a hardbody but it had terrible rust and after replacing the clutch the engine threw a rod and i scrapped it for 400. It seems these trucks are alot alike and I hope it helps me with the mods i do to my yota. most mods for the next few months will have to be inexpensive as i had to take out a loan to buy this truck and i dont have much time to was since im still in highschool. Any tips on what i should start with? i have brand new belltech drop blocks i never installed on my hardbody will these fit the yota? ill soon start a build thread hopefully. thats all for now.
Yah the drop blocks should fit fine. I'll mention one thing about the fact its an Xcab (make sure your rear wing windows lock tightly as any joe blow with a screwdriver can pop them open and your truck is goneif they are loose) Other cheap things is the BJ (ball joint) flip in the front and to tighten your torsion bars a few turns to lower it in the front. I could list a bunch of other cheap if not free mods but Im uncertain of what you wish to do with the truck. Welcome to TM Stay in school dont do drugs but do all the ladies hahahh
thanks for the quick reply i read about the ball joint flip i dont really understand how it works and couldn't find a thread about it im sure i just didnt look hard enough though. Plans are just a static drop but as low as i can get without bottoming out on every bump, i really want to get a topper for it and deck the inside out oldschool style, seeing as not may do it anymore. Im gona lose the rear bumper and cut a licence plat box in my tailgate, I can weld pretty good so im sure it opens up my mod options a good amount
YOu can weld you can pretty much do anything. If your pretty dang good Id say bag it but thats just me I bag everything. Rollpans are pretty cheap but if your just gonna remove bumper and build your own plate box into tailgate Id say just build your own rollpan. http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/suspension-chassis-40/how-do-ball-joint-flip-sd-yota-5272/ Id say static depending on what size rims you want to run and how much beating and cutting of metal you are willing to do (FREE) you can go 5"front (drop spindles, BJ flip, torsions cranked to hell, I dont recommend it cause it will ride like crap so just go 3-4" front) 5-6" rear (drop blocks, baby c notch, shaved bump stops, pull a leaf spring or buy the drop springs
thanks alot! ill definatly get a roll pan one i have some extra money and the bj flip will probably be done within the week. I might eventualy bag it once i can afford it but thats just not a option right now and its not going to be a show truck anytime soon. as far as cranking torsions i know about doing it from my nissan but how much can i really get without having really any camber? As this will be my daily and im not gona be able to buy new tires all the time. Thanks again
Congrats on the new truck man, you're gonna love it, looks really clean so far. I can see (3) free things you can do to your truck right off to make it even cleaner, this is what I would do but its your truck: 1. Remove your front and rear mud flaps, including the bracket plate that the flap bolts to 2. Remove your rear bumper, even without a pan, it still looks cleaner 3. Remove your SR5 stripping, I took a hair dryer, a patient hand and some goof off to remove the excess adhesive glue, heat up a small area at a time, grab a corner and slowly start to pull it up and back, it will break off in pieces and just start over. Goodluck man, and just do one mod (suspension, body work, ect) at a time, I think I see a Mini truckin' feature in the works!
Welcome and im 18 I got my pickup for 400 but the engine gave out so I had to pay to rebuild it and you can find most stuff on here or youtube
